Eng. Memorial Award for thé best Senior Science Olympics against other senior contestants and placed first winning the Gold Bcience Olympics Award. The project consists of two conical shaped shafts connected by a belt. One of the shafts is powered by a 1.5 volt electric motor. As one shaft fotates, the belt rotates the other shaft in what Jason describes as a constant gear, rather than a gear that shifts. He said last week he has been thinking pbout this project for quite a while and for the Science Fair, he spent several days building it at DYTECH Inc., the Courtice machine shop owned by Tie futher Jason said this kind of transmission can be developed for commercial use in a vehicle or a piece of machinery the project had been Originally, developed for his grade 13 physics class taught by Randy Seott. Mr. Beott encourafed him with this project and was very pleased to see it recognized at the Durham Science Fair Jason is hoping to get accepted at Waterloo University this fall to pursue studies in mechanical engineering in the program. The competition is flerce, and Jason's show at the Regional nes Pair should help his chances.
