Rev. Bob LePage, their pastor for the past six years, is taking a sabbatical leave effective Jur.e 1 until August 81,1994. Taking over during this period will be Rev. Dorinda Volimer. Rev. Vollmer attained her Master of Divinity degree in 1976 at Ernmanuel College in Toronto. In a rec:nt interview with the Citizen she related how she was the first female to be ordained from St. John's United Church in Oakville since its establishment in 1882. Following that milestone bo Ontario. Over the years she inued to serve God at she's had a very chall yet fulfilling life in "the ministry, one that has allowed her to use her musical.and artistic talents extensively. Her first placement was on the Roseau River Indian Reserve in Manitoba from 1976-1980. It was during this period of her career that she picked up some pencil crayons one day and began her attempt at creating something beautiful out of all the suffering she saw on the reserve. . Developing her 'own' style of art, she was invited to have a show at the Temiskaming Art Gallery in 1987. Following her work on the reserve Rev. Vollmer returned PUBLIC NOTICE THE REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF DURHAM IN THE MATTER OF THE MUNICIPAL ACT TAKE NOTICE THAT the Council of the Regional Municipality of Durham may pass by-laws authorizing construction of the following projects. "I've lived in many places and have been privileged to serve so many people" she told the Citizen. Having written all her life, whether it be poetry, prose, articles for newspapers or sermons, Rev. Vollmer has also had two books published, "Reflections, To Ease the Pain" was published in 1991 and a year later "More Reflections" hit the book stands. Both books reflect on the pain and suffering she felt and observed while on the reservation. For the past twenty years, Rev. Vollmer has taught piano to children and adults, "from beginner to advanced" and has given "lightly classical" recitals. A mixture of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven interspersed with the more popular music- Phantom of the Opera, Memories and Ava Maria, her latest two-hour recital was given in Peterborough a year ago with all the proceeds going to the Millbrook Cavan Pastoral Charge. Much to her delight, her son, Warren,24, has decided to follow in his mother's footsteps and is currently enrolled in Theology at university. Having met Rev. Vollmer at various conferences in the past, Rev. LePage told the Citizen he's very pleased with# the committee's choice and is confident the congregations will be well looked after. Rev. Vollmer is looking forward to her three months in Port Perry. "If you go into any community and open yourself to receive, then more than likely these people will give back to you" she said.
