Nestleton thrives on that good old community spirit In this hustle and bustle world, it is great to see that community spirit is still alive and well in the village of Nestleton. Warren Rohrer, president of Nestleton Park Board is very happy to see other members of the community volunteering to undertake various tasks required within the area. He says that is is not a one person effort to rug an area park, but an effort by many from the community. The Park Executive is also a volunteer pesition. No one is paid to pit on the executive. The membersirun it like a business in order to keep the operating expenses down. Income from hall rental helps defer the cost of maintenance to the taxpayer. Three years ago a new entrance was installed in the park building, making the hall accessible to the physically challenged. During the fall of last year construction began on a sheltered picnic area which is now nearing completion. Rohrer also commented on the work of Arnold Williams, the groundskeeper. Arnold goes beyond his required duties and does additional work in order to keep the grounds and building in top shape. The Park Board is hoping to extend the outfield fence from the existing four foot height up to eight feet this year. If all goes well, the fence will be completed before the end of the baseball season. The ball diamond is slated for renovations during the first week of May. Since Cartwright Minor Ball Association introduced hardball to the area, the need for diamond space has increased. Nestleton Park ball diamond is now being extended to accommodate hardball games. Jim Williams of Jim's Excavating in Nestleton has donated his time and machinery to excavate earth, enlarging the playing field. The Township is supplying the new diamond dirt. Last season, Jim graciously donated his time and machinery to do a major ovethaul of the diamond at the High School in Blackstock. Though Jim is very busy in his business, he makes the time to help. Williams says that he feels it is important that the proper facilities are available for the youth in the area who want to play ball. He feels that with a little time contributed from many, a large job becomes smaller and keeps the costs down. Again this year, Cartwright Minor Ball has seen an increase in the number of youths playing ball in the league. With the diamonds being prepared by the help of many the the ball players can look forward to another great season of ball. The support of so many in Cartwright makes for many successful events in the community. wy 'Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, May 3, 1994 -- 35 Pe 1 [SLAC INelle[ ale] JIN Nefele]lileToR NIV ({T11 725-6501 798-7893 ' & bo al DICK SHINN © DOUG DEMPSEY ~~ RES. 985-0587 RES. 985-8865 P'SPORT STATS Nave: Dave's Contracting Nestleton Country Store Ron Lee Water Supply Londgp Lite Kirby Structures Classic Alumin(ifh Opper's Aluminum Port Perry IGA Port Perry Ladies Lob Ball April 25 - April 29 TEAM: GP w L T PTs.
