Hospital study due end of May The Durham Region District Héalth Council is coordinating the efforts of hospitals, community health organizations, health care providers, local citizens and the Ministry of Health to develop a regional plan to take Durham's hospital system into the next century. Last April, the Durham Region Acute Care planning process began and a Steering Committee was established to oversee it, and develop recommendations. At the end of May, the Steering Committee will release a discussion paper. This paper will form the basis for discussion at public meetings across the region. A schedule for these public meetings will be avail- able by the end of this month. The Steering Committee has found through its analysis so.far that the system in Durham will be ufiaple to provide adequate services for the needs of Durham residents as the population grows and changes over the next decade. A new organization of the system is required. Once the Steering Committee has developed its - final recommendations, they will be forwarded to the District Health Council for review. The District Health Council must accept the recommendations before they are submitted to the Minister of Health for her approval. 34 Water Street, Port Perry, Ontario LOL 1)2 985-8471 PERSONAL ATTENTION TO ALL OF FORDER - - INSURANCE BROKERS INC.
