PORT PERRY 985-3700 BROOKLIN , 5900 Anderson 655-4008 Ontario hikes limit on feeder cattle loans Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister Elmer Buchanan, and Ontario Cattlemen's Association President Ken Summers announced the limit for the Ontario Feeder Cattle Loan Guarantee Program will be increased from $25 million to $35 million. "The Ontario Feeder Cattle Loan Guarantee Program is an excellent example of a co- operative strategy for agricultural finance,"Buchanan said. "This program promotes Hop Girls and they are from the flexibility and availability of credit for Ontario cattle farmers and has created jobs and economic activity in rural communities." A provision in the program allows the maximum principal amount owing by a member to be increased from $100,000 to $125,000, after the member has participated successfully in the program Buchanan said the 1993-94 value of loans was double that of the 92-93 season. "Support of our farmers and their farms is vital to our rural communities," he said. The loan guarantee program was originally developed in co- operation with the "Ontario Cattlemen's Association (OCA) and the Canadian Bankers' Association and was blished during a two-year trial basis that began in November 1990. The program became permenant in 1992. "I am pleased the ministry has demonstrated confidence in this program," said OCA President Ken Summers. "We have had success with the producers, banks, and government. The credit increase allows more farmers to participate and strengthen the cattlefeeding industry in Ontario." Under the Co-operative Corporation Act the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the OCA assist beef producers to establish feeder finance co-operatives, for the purpose of negotiating cattle loans. The Board of Directors of each co-operative reviews farmers' applications to purchase cattle. Negotiated interest rates are lowered because of the risk sharing nature of the co- operative, the 25 per cent government guarantee and the co-operatives' ability to apply for a single large loan rather than a number of small loans. To date there have been no claims on the government's 25 per cent guarantee. ¥ Wall Stenciling o mufiana ¥ Unique custom designed stencils to match any fabric, oa , Curtains, Ci room ¥ Bedrooms, Kitchens, Floors, Furniture, Kids' Rooms, finish painting a specialty!
