He was one of mor than 40 applicants for the position of curator that became vacant recently with the resignation for health reasons of Kim Harper. Mr. Robert said he is "very "excited" about the position and very impressed with the Scugog Shores 'Museum on Scugog Island. "I have visited a lot of small amuseums across the province and this is certainly one of the better ones * he said. Ta And he is pleased to see the Museum enjoys much popularity in the community and has a dedicated board of directors and" small army of volunteers who pitch in to'help out whenever they are needed. : : Mr. Robert took his under- graduate degree in anthropology at the University of Western Ontario and while a student there, worked extensively with the Museum of . Indian > Archaeology, which is affiliated with the University. t He has completed his first Year of a Master's degree \in archaeology, and is now working on his thesis on the Iroquois Occupation of the western end of Lake Ontario. Native history and archaeology. have been a major interest for Mr. Robert, and as curator at the Scugog Museum, he hopes to add to the native collection there and do research on native history in the Scugog area. One of the priorities the directors have set for the Museum is to clear up the back- log of accessions of artifacts. Several students will be hired by the Museum this summer to work on this. : And Mr. Robert will be busy with several public events at the Museum, starting with Pioneer Days in mid-June. Mr. Robert and his wife Susan now live in Peterborough and have been frequent visitors to Port Perry and area. They have a seven month old daughter Lucy and are considering a move to this area. The Scugog Shores Museum, founded 26 years ago, includes the main building, an 1860 Methodist Church, pioneer log cabin, print shop, blacksmith shop, a pioneer house and woodworking shop. _ISHMAN'S, fy ~N Paula's Knit Fur de ry Bil Senltue Artifacts
