The owners of Lakeside had forecasted to be strictly golf until 1994 when hockey would then be added. The summer of 1993 proved to be a greater success than anticipated, so hockey was added one year earlier, changing the name to Lakeside Golf and Hockey Centre. The store now had the capabilities to offer custom skate sharpening, equipment repairs, used skates/equipment, skate rentals and of course hockey sales. At the start of 1994, Lakeside added yet another twist co the services they had to offer. They could do orders for teams uniforms, jackets, silkscreening, trophies and engravi Now one year latef, Lakeside is celebrating their first anniversary, and is surprising their customers again with yet another line of products and services . . . mountain bikes. Trailering your boat -- it helps to know before you tow A trailerable boat expands your horizons, but make sure your tow vehicle is up to the task before you hit the road. In its owner's manual will be listed the vehicles overall towing limit and tongue-weight limit. Exceeding these limits will void your warranty and could be dangerous, as you could overload the brakes. Also note the GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) which is the total weight of the tow vehicle, passengers, and gear, plus trailer, boat and contents. The best way to sure your GCWR is park the whole rig (including kids) on a truck scale. Smaller boats tow fine on a single axle trailer, but when your boat weight reaches 3000 pounds, it's time to consider a tandem axle trailer, which distributes the weight ,of the boat over four wheels and four sets of springs. A tandem trailer handles the stress of rough roads better In most' places trailer brakes are required for loads over 3000 pounds, Surge brakes are automatically applied when you brake your vehicle and add un extra margin of safety on wet roads. Your tow hitch also needs to match the weight of your load. Most trailerable boats will require a Class 3 hitch, rated for loads up to 5000 pounds. Because boats carry most of their weight in the stern, boat trailers are designed with axles toward the rear to balance the load. If boat and trailer sway back and forth as you drive, the tongue weight may be too light. Redistribute your gear in the boat, or have your dealer help you adjust the boat's position on the trailer to put more weight on the tongue. Trim out for Efficiency Finding your boat's most efficient running angle requires sensitive use of the power trim function, an electro-hydraulic ram that moves the drive unit and thus the propeller, in and out in relation to the transom. Most drives are designed with a few degrees of negative trim at their lowest setting, so the prop is actually pushing the stern up. Always use this setting to get the best acceleration from a dead stop. As soon as the boat planes off, trim the drive out to use the prop's thrust to raise the bow and reduce its drag in the water. You'll feel the bow lighten and the wake move aft on the hull when the boat reaches a good trim angle Over trimming will eventually raise the prop out of the water, reducing speed and efficiency-you'll hear the prop "howl." With practice, trimming to your boat's sweet spot will become second nature. Courtesy of Larson Boats and Port Perry Marina.
