Yor Gamblers win it again for the third time at Baltimore tournament The Greenbank Gamblers were at the Baltimore' Fastball Tournament on the weekend and after five tough games in the extreme heat and humidity, the Gamblers finally captured the trophy and top prize money. This was the third consecutive year the Greenbank team have won this major tournament and this year was possibly the toughest as the Gamblers prevailed through five tough, hard-fought ballgames that included extra innings. Greenbank edged Colborne Rutherfords by an extra inning 2-1 score on Saturday morning and won another 2-1 cliffhanger over North Fred. Juniors on Saturday afternoon Sunday morning saw the Gamblers get past the Stouffville Juniors by a 2-0 count and then edge past North York Aces 3-2 in the afternoon. These victories put Greenbank in the main event final against the host Baltimore team who feature ex-Gambler pitcher Wayne Wells and the fans were looking forward to another key match up. Unfortunately Wells pulled a muscle in his back swinging at a high pitch and was unable to participate in the Championship Game. Todd March took the mound for Baltimore to oppose the Gamblers' Mark Goreski, and when the dust finally settled, Greenbank came home with a 4- 1 win to take the championship and the $1000 first prize. Jim Chilvers and Mark Goreski Those Cuties return The Cuties are making a return appearance, and Greenbank may never be the same again The Cuties, dressed in their finest skirts, blouses and who knows what else, will be taking on the Greenbank Gamblers (past and present) in a fastball game at Greenbank Park on Sunday, June 26 The Cuties made quite a hit (not mention a show) the last time they took on the Gamblers at the official opening of the park a couple of years ago It will ba all in good fun and for a good cause. Proceeds from this game will be turned over to the Greenbank Hall Board. Game time is 2:30 PM and This tournament has 16 teams tickets are $3.00 each or $10 for in it and we could come up against St. Mary's whom we played last year in the O.ASA championships. There should be some good ball games at this one. a family. And there will be a door prize for a pair of Blue Jay tickets. Greenbank shortstop Pete Oosterholt had a hot bat in the tourney and cracked out a total of three homers during the weekend with other home runs coming off the bats of Brian Till, Steve Durham and Jim Chilvers. This is a difficult tournament to win even once but to do it in three consecutive years is a good p and defense and a fourth inning home run by Greg Newell.
