Durham East MPP Gord Mills believes native people have suffered enough over the years and "perhaps it is time for a little 'native love' to come from all of us." He made the comments Monday in his weekly statement sent to media outlets in Durham East riding. Mr. Mills noted in his statement that at a public meeting last Thursday night on the proposed gaming facility on First Nation land on Scugog Island he was referred to as "a native lover." "I suppose that was meant to be derogatory," said Mr. Mills who was not at the public meeting due to government business at Queens Park. He goes on to say that while travelling in Ontario three years ago, native people constantly told him of the need for economic development "that would allow native people to become self sufficient." Referring to the attempt by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation to operate a 25,000 square foot charitable gaming facility under licence from the provincial government, Mr. Mills said "their attempts to build an economic future on Scugog Island will have far-reaching effects.on native people wishing * to come back to their lands from many places in Ontario." sl TOP SOIL 985-7788 B FIELD ....cooonnee $7. / yd.
