Entertainment, fireworks Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, June 28, 1994 -- 13 A July 1in Palmer Park Palmer Park in Port Perry will be the scene for Canada Day celebrations this Friday, July 1 leading up to the giant fireworks display at dusk. Opening ceremonies at 8:00 PM will include colour guards from the Port Perry Legion Branch 419 and from the Korean Veterans Association, Unit 11 who will pay tribute to the 120,000 Canadians who lost " their lives in three wars to preserve our freedom. The entertainment this evening will feature the local band "Clay Highway," which performs its own original songs in R&B, hard and soft rock origins. Formed in late 1992 by lead guitarist Rich Timmers and rhythm guitarist Jamie Wade, the band includes Cory Minshall doing the per and Ryan, Ruskay with his hard and fast style on bass. . Clay Highway has opened for local bands and has gone to play dates in this area to nice crowd reviews, Todd Fitchett's vocals will be Frank Trainor heard at the Canada Day show and Rick Mason takes up bass chores as Ryan prepares for university. Our Local Council was well represented with Mayor Hall and Councillers Pearce, Carruthers, Christie, Dietlein, Graham and. Gadsen in attendance. Durham Board Chairman Gary Herrema spoke to the gathering. Representing the U.S.C.0. was Al Smith accompanied by his wife Marie. Al spoke about the difficulties in arranging meetings with Government officials to address Senior's concerns. Performing that evening as well is Port Perry resident Frank Trainor, one of the most successful and popular male recording artist on country radio in Canada in the 1980's, who had 'a handful of hits and special guest appearances on the Torhmy Hunter Show. In 1986, he was a Juno nominee for country male vocalist. Trainor is a Broadcast Music Inc., song award winner for airplay dollar earnings as a writer. For a time, he lived in Nashville as a staff songwriter on Music Row for what is now EMI Music Ltd, one of the largest publishing companies in the world. Currently focussed as an artist and writer away from mainstream country and once again allied with EMI Music, Trainor delivers a unique blend of hybrid songwriting styles combined with an energetic interpretation of his own works which grabs the very heart of originality and craftsmanship. The entertainment will get underway this Friday evening in Palmer at about 7:00 PM, followed by the opening ceremonies at 8:00 PM and the fireworks at about 9:45 PM.
