Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, June 28, 1994 -- 15 a GM Pro Bass series makes stop on Scugog Over 300 anglers were on Lake Scugog over the weekend in the first GM/Mariner Pro Bass Series of the season. They took almost 700 bass from Scugog and Sturgeon Lakes during this two-day event and all were returned safely to the water after being weighed. The fishing was tough on Saturday due to the unsettled weather. The derby had to be delayed an hour in the morning because of heavy fog. On day one, 1993 Angler of the Year Rocky Crawford of Whitby and his partner Henry Szemiot of Bowmanville took the top prize of $5,000 cash with 18.16 pounds. Crawford also landed the big fish of the day--a 5.10 pour.d lunker. Second spot with 16.8 pounds went to Ted Jackson and Ron Hildreth of Steney Creek, and third with 16.6 pounds went to Wea, Lavergne of Peterborough and John Fedoruk of Oakville. The fish were a bit hungrier on the second day of this event Hill of Oshawa took home top prize of $5,000 with a combined weight of 19.10 pounds. Second place with 16.56 pounds was worth $2,000 for the téam of Jim Eastbrooks of Hamilton and Mike Jackson of Stoney Creek. And the team of Bruce Leeson of Jerseyville and Mike snagged $1500 for boating 15 pounds of bass. The big fish award on Sunday went to John Furnandiz at 4.9 pounds. The GM/Mariner Pro Bass Series will feature 156 such derbies in southern Ontario this summer.
