wr 18 --Bougog Citizen -- Tuesd 3, June 28, 1994 . Anglican churches tackle purple loosestrife. On Sunday, June 26th, the parishioners of Scugog's Anglican Churches, St. John's, Blackstock, and The Church of the Ascension, Port Perry, joined forces on our Causeway for Scugog's first "Purple" Day. Their goal was to rid the causeway of Purple Loosestrife, a wetland invading weed that is now threatening Scugog's wetlands throughout the region. Purple Loosestrife has been compared to acid rain. A lake can look very beautiful, but if it has been killed by acid rain it is BN ET 4 AR bee SER o Jui McKinlay and Kelth Clarke (bi ack row, far left) of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and totally devoid of life. Likewise, Purple Loosestrife in our wetlands and fields looks beautiful, but the plant invades our wetlands by choking out all native vegetation. It destroys the wetland habitats that are so vital to our fish and wildlife, two Hunters worked with a group from St. John's Anglican Church In Blackstock and the Church of the:Ascension in Port Perry, ing up the c y of purple ite, a weed that chokes out all native vegetation.
