And never more so than this year when the Greenbank club has been winning games regularly in their last bat or in extra innings. The Gamblers did it again last Thursday night in Greenbank Park as they trailed the Oshawa Juniors all the way only to tie the game in the seventh inning and finally win it in the overtime. Oshawa got off to a great start in the first inning as Kevin Gibson opened the game with a double, scored on Mike Dingmans double and the score went to 3-0 when Phil Yahn homered to deep centre field. Gambler pitcher Jim Chilvers settled down after the first inning Oshawa outburst and Greenbank started to whittle away at the 3.0 deficit when lead off batter Steve Durham belted a home run to left field and the score read 3-1 afterone inning. In the second inning Durham again went deep off Oshawa pitcher Hubert Basilio to close the cap t6 3-2. The score stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth when Brian Till led off the inning with a single, was Sncrifheed to second by Mark Gor#ski and scored on John Foster's single up the middle and the game was tied at three. Chilvers appeared to have the Oshawa attack under control and had not given up a hit after the first innings but with two out in the sixth, pitcher Hubert Basilio helped his own cause by hitting a long home run to right centre field and Oshawa led by a 4-3 score. Down to their last chance to avoid defeat, the Gamblers rallied when Steve Durham had his third hit of the game as he singled to centre with one out. Paul Goreski laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Durham to second and Greg Newell promptly tied the game again with a solid hit to right field. In the extra innings Jim Chilvers retired the side in the 8th and Trevor Tilliended the game abruptly when he connected for a giant home run that landed in the Tennis Courts. The come from behind win left the Gamblers with a 10-1 record and still holding a two point advance for the league lead over the fast charging Oshawa Flying Squirrels who hold down second spot with a 9-2 win-lost record. Steve Durham and Greg Newell each had three hits for Greenbank, and Jim Chilvers claimed 15 strike outs. This weekend July 1-2-3 the Gamblers are in Waterloo at the 1.8.C.
