Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, June 35, 1954 --7 Victory Christian Centre officially opened The Victory Christian Centre was officially opened Sunday afternoon with a service and dedication filled with praise for the Lord. Located at 593 Alma Street in Port Perry in what used to be a warehouse, Victory Christian Centre has about 100 members and is growing all the time, said Pastor John Benschop. Members of the church began renovating the warehouse last December and now the brick walls of the Sanctuary have been painted a soft mauve to match the colouring of the chairs. The Centre also includes a full Strong turn-out at meeting for hospital services Close to 300 people turned out at the Latcham Centre in Port Perry last Thursday night to tell the Durham Health Council not to tamper with the levels of service provided at Community Memorial Hospital. A steering committee of the Health Council has released a study paper on all hospitals in the Region and is now conducting a series of meetings to get public reaction to the recommendations Those from Scugog who attended last Thursday's meeting expressed concern about not being able to get basic medical services here, including emergency and maternity Hospital Board chairman Kent Farndale was very pleased that s0 many people took the time to attend the meeting and express their feelings. "lI am very proud of the community for the way people expressed their feelings about our hospital," she said later. "The large turn-out shows that people really care." Community Memorial Hospital will be submitting a written brief to the Steering Committee in a couple of weeks Once the committee has received written briefs and heard from the citizens of the Region at the public meetings, it will submit a final report to the Durham Health Council which in turn will report to the prqvincial health ministry. Town Hall 1873 gets $57,000 loan from council Town Hall 1873 patrons will enjoy their favourite comedies, dramas and musicals when the theatre season opens again in the fall after Township council agreed to a loan of $57,000 for such things as new chairs and portable risers air conditioning and a new furna Pat Smith, Nancy Forester and Diane Lackie of the Town Hall 1873 board appeared before council Monday afternoon and agreed that the Board would re- pay the Township at a rate of $10,000 per year. Already, the Board has raised some $10,000 through a $2 special surcharge on tickets to performances.
