This is unprecedented; Schindler's List won best film awards from the British Film Academy, The Golden Globes, The National Board of Review, The National Society of Film Critics, The Los Angeles Film Critics, The New York Film Critics, The Chicago, Boston and Dallas Film Critics and of course, the movie won seven Oscars including Best Film, and Speilberg's long overdue Direction Oscar. In the last twenty years, there has not been a greater film than Schindler's List. Let me go further to give an idea of the brilliance of the film. Schindler's List is among the ten greatest films ever made, it may be the most important work of art committed to celuloid, and, in addition to his other awards, Speilberg should have won a Nobel Peace Prize. The film traces the life of Oskar Schindler, a member of the Nazi Party, who found it in his soul to save 1,100 Jews during the holocaust. This is the triumph of a man Henshall's LIMITED SMALL to PLUS SIZES who made a difference, and the drama of those who survived the darkest chapter in human history. For reasons of guilt, perhaps shame, perhaps human compassion, Schindler rebelled against the Nazis (silently), wheeling and dealing to protect his Jews from the gas chambers of Auschwitz. Speilberg creates some of the most hofrific images of the holocaust ever filmed, yet that horror works as a magnet; you are unable to ever look away as if seeing that horror will somehow free us of our feelings about the holocaust, or at least help us understand. Filmed in stark black and white, with a running time of three and a half hours, Schindler's List is a demanding film. All great works of art challenge us; does one look at a Picasso and instantly understand? Liam Neeson is subtly, quietly powerful as Schindler, shading the man with many complexities. Simply astounding is Ralph Fiennes as Nazi Camp Commandant Amon Goethe, who believes so completely in the Nazis, he is evil incarnate. Uncompromising, Schindler's List is the first film to deal head on with the holocaust, and with this, Speilberg will forever be remembered as one of the greatest filmmakers, who made one of the greatest, most heartbreaking, shattering films of all time. It will haunt you until the end of your days, as it should. As human beings we should indeed possess an understanding of what six million people understood all too well Scugog Arena offers programs this winter The 1994 Winter Program will soon begin at Scugog Arena with a number of public programs offered.
