Great Ganaraska Countryside tour on this weekend by Heather McCrae If you're looking for something different and unique to do this weekend, then you should consider taking in the Great Ganaraska Countryside Adventure. This adventure is a two-day drive-yourself car tour spanning both the Municipality of Clarington and the Township of Hope. An annual and very popular event, it's being organized by the Save the Ganaraska Again (SAGA), a non- profit organization dedicated to preserving the agricultural and ecological integrity of the Ganaraska River watershed. Touring the Ganaraska can be an outing for the entire family You can eithér bring your own picnic lunch or buy one along the way. There's something for everyone to see and do. Some folks didn't see everything they wanted to last year and, for this reason, are coming back again this year A total of 65 farms and gardens invite you to share this rural experience You'll find everything from quilting bees to honey bees, from vegetable and flower gardens to quail and deer farms Tour a trout hatchery where you can purchase fresh or smoked trout. Or visit a century salt box barn and watch a _ quilting bee, pick up some pointers or try your hand on a small quilt. Over 50 local quilts dating from 1885 to the present will be on display Visit two of Ontario's largest Standardbred and Morgan horse farms or make arrangements for a freezer order of beef, lamb, chicken or goat with the farmer that raises them Barbara Weese with quilt made by her grandmother Cena Weese. Two of Cena's qulits will be on display during the Great Ganaraska Coiintryside Adventure. See story for detalls. Try your hand at milking a goat, learn to braid garlic and discover where your food is grown and who grows it. Or visit a quail or pheasant farm and order a treat for that special repast.
