Gamblers meet Squirrels in fastball playoff Thursday This coming Thursday night the Greenbank Gamblers will meet the Oshawa Flying Squirrels in an 8:15 playoff game at Greenbank Park. This years double knockout playoff formula has all teams in the play downs with winners meeting winners and two losses eliminates any team from further competition. The Flying Squirrels' Pete Landers is fresh off pitching a complete game playoff victory over the Port Perry Antrims which could be bad news for the Gamblers. Last week the Gamblers edged out the Port Perry Juveniles at Greenbank by the close score of 3-2. Port Perry got off to a good start on hits by Jeff Card and Darryl Vanderslagt and took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Gamblers had six hits during the game but their offense was centred in the bottom of the fourth when Greg Newell hit a booming homerun to tie the game and when Brian Till doubled he came around on Paul Goreski's long homer to left centre and the Gamblers had a 3°1 lead. Mark Goreski, settled down to claim nine strike outs during the game and was ¢ruising along ith two out in the last inning when Vanderslagt singled (for the third hit Goreski allowed in the game) and then a high fly to right, field got lost in the lights and suddenly the score was 3-2 and the tying run on third base. Goreski bore down and retired the final out on a fly to centre field. In addition to the Newell and Paul Goreski home runs, Goreski also added a single, Brian Till a double with Steve Durham and Dan Balachorek rounding out the Greenbank hitting. Jeff Card went the distance for Port Perry and had six strike outs in the contest. Jim Chilvers has returned from the I1.8.C. Tourney at Charlottetown P.E.I. where he performed with the London- Sheddon team as a pick up player which the major tournaments in North America allows. This week the other half of Greenbank's excellent pitching duo, Mark Goreski, leaves for Salt Lake City, with the Oshawa Mickey Finns for the NAF.T.A. trophy. So far in city league play off action the only team to suffer two losses and be eliminated is the Oshawa Double "B" Juveniles. Redmen up one in Ont.
