CITIZEN SPORTS Mites gain lots of experience at OASA tourney On August 27 the Taylor Ford Mites travelled to Paris to compete in the Mite "C" Ontario Tournament. In the first game Port faced a very strong team from Fergus, with the Fergus pitcher throwing a one hitter. Port's only hit came from Stuart Cochrane. Final score was Fergus 17 - Port 2. The second game saw the Taylor Ford boys more on their game, squeaking out a 9-8 win over Paris. This game saw Port earn a 3- 0 lead at the end of 3 innings thanks to.a homerun by Stuart Cochrane, great base running by Tyler Lee, and Jonathon Breen scoring on pass balls. Paris took the lead by scoring four in the 4th inning. Both teams played strong defense for the next couple of innings before the Taylor boys broke the game wide open in the bottom of the 6th with six runs. . The inning started with Tyler Lee hitting a single, then stealing 2nd and 3rd before scoring on a pass ball to tie the . game. After getting the next two batters to strike out, the pitcher had a hard time finding the plate, walking the next 6 batters. Jonathon Breen, Luke Pilkey, Caleb Atkins and Justin Vandergaast scored on. pass balls during the reckless pitching. Terry Daly ended the scoring coming in on Darryl Copithorne's single. After the Taylor Boys got two quick outs, Paris made things interesting scoring four runs before we finally got the last out with the tying run on third B.J. Schaump pitched a good game, striking out 7 and walking three. The Taylor boys showed a lot of character in this one. Game 3 saw the Taylor boys come up flat, ending up going down to defeat and out of the tournament with an 18-5 loss to Tavistock. Playing well on the weekend were Darryl Copithorn 2 hits and catching well; Justin Shinn 3 hits and good catches; Stuart Cochrane 2 hits and a good glove; Tyler Lee 2 hits, 3 walks and great base running; B.J.
