A great place for your recreational pursuits Wado Kai Karate Club honours two members [&, ho Two members of the Port Perry Wado Kai Karate Club in Port Perry were honoured by fellow club members last week. Catherine Pavlik and Ryan Ruskay received "Outstanding Achievement Awards" for dedication and commitment. Not only does the award recognize their accomplishment in the sport of karate (they both hold the coveted black belt) but their academic achievements as well. Catherine graduated as an Ontario scholar (over 80 per cent in six OAC subjects) from Port Perry High School this spring and Ryan attained Ontario scholar ranking at Cartwright High School. Catherine and Ryan have been Wado Kai members for about a decade, and both agreed last week that the discipline and focus learned through karate helped their academic work and can be applied to anything in life. "It really is a question of attitude," said Catherine. She will be starting an Honours BA_ with a French major this week at Glendon Campus (York U.) in Toronto and is thinking of a career in teaching. Ryan is also Toronto bound this week to start a degree course in Radio-TV Arts at Ryerson. His career aspirations are to get into ..
