Second half was played just as well with Jennifer Hammond kicking in the 3rd goal, assisted by Cheryl-Anne Goreski. The final goal was scored by Sarah Smith getting her 2nd goal of the game. We had a terrific season with excellent effort by all teammates. See you at practice on Thursday, Sept. 8. The Citizen girls soccer team tied a Whitby Optimist 1st place team on Aug. 25. This was a very exciting match. Both teams played very hard and good effort by all was shown. It was nice to see a good clean game played by both sides. The Citizen scored the 1st goal, and the only goal in the first half. Ashley Murphy scored out front with her left foot booting the ball pass Whitby's goalie. As a coach would say, nice to see either foot being used to score , Ashley! Second half was played just as well, will all the girls doing a good job playing their positions to keep the 1-0 score. With just 5 minutes to go in the game, Whitby goes on the scoreboard with a hard kick up and over our goalie, Nicole. There was no way this kick could of been stopped! With the score 1-1 tie, the end nearing ,both teams having equal scoring chances,the crowd sitting on pins ind needles to the end. Game over! A well deserve tie for both teams. ' Winchester wins 4-3 Winchester Arms hosted Pickering, Ontario Air Systems recently at the Soccer Fields in girls Under 17 action. The teams put on a superb display on how soccer should be played. Fast running and crisp passes provided the fans with a most enjoyable evening of soccer. The teams forced the play constantly with the Arms taking a 1-0 lead when Sara Cosway following the play struck for a goal on a cross from the left side of the field. ) Pickering played solid soccer and were rewarded with a goal at the 25 minute mark when Jani Blake scored to tie the score 1-1. Ten minutes later they struck for a goal by Stephanie Mendes to put Pickering up 2-1. The Winchester gals played with desire and were awarded a corner kick with time running down in the first half. Sara Cosway crossed the ball' right in front of the goal where Emily Cosway tapped the ball to Shaun Gault who made no mistake and drove the ball into the net to tie the score 2-2 just as the half ended. The second half was well Chiefs knock out Brooklin The lacrosse sefison came to an abrupt end for the Brooklin Redmen last week as the Six Nation Chiefs ousted them four games to two. Brooklin had taken a 2-0 series lead for the Ontario Lacrosse championship, but the Chiefs came back to win four straight. They clipped the Redmen 15-9 in game five, then put their defense to work in game six for a series clinching 18-5 victory. The Chiefs victory over Brooklin is considered something of an upset as the Redmen finished a strong first in league play.
