mw" Scugog Citizen -- Wednesday, September 7, 1994 -- 33 - New Family Farm Loan plan unveiled by FCC Farm Credit Corporation (FCC) has designed a new financial product to meet the needs of retiring farmers who want to pass the farm onto the next generation. The Family Farm Loan plan was announced .today by Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Ralph Goodale and will be inwoduced nationwide starting in the fall of 1994. The product, believed to be the first of its kind in Canada, helps new farnfers get Started while giving retiring farmers a stable source of income. FCC will approve a loan to the buyer of up to 90 per cent of the appraised value of the property. The seller will then receive a portion of the funds immediately (normally about 40 per cent) and the balance owing over a maximum of fivé years. "This innovative product provides a way for retiring farmers to help their children, who want to farm, get established," said Mr. Goodale. "It was developed in response to requests, from the farm community for a mechanism to help transfer farms from one generation to the next without creating unmanageable debt or - jeopardizing the retirement income of the older generation.
