Port Perry Golf League winds up season the challenging course at Ashburn. app peey Challenging might be a bit of an under-statement to describe the way Oak Ridge was playing on a beautiful fall afternoon under bright sunshine and a brisk (and cool) breeze from the northwest that somehow seemed to be in the golfers' faces all day. And League co-ordinfjtor Bob Beveridge, who put in a lot of work all season long, decided Sunday's tournament would be played from the championship tees at Oak Ridge whichrmmde-a tough course everr tougher. And whoever set the pins that morning must have been looking for some kind of revenge as almost all were in the most / difficult spots-tucked in behind' traps or sitting on the edge ofa * slope. = Buyt-énough on that. It was a 6st enjoyable afternoon as the /Rolfers were thankful to get in / one final round before the really chilly weather arrives. Following the round, the season. Steve Lucas took away most of the hardware in this inaugural season as he won the match play competition and his scramble team of Steve Caldwell, Greg Haslam and Rick (the Legend) Sheehey had the best scramble score of the day--even par. That's a pretty good indication of the way Oak Ridge was beating up on the field. Kevin Murray took the plaque for most points during play over \the summer. \ All League members received a colourful golf jersey with "Port Perry Golf League" printed on the front and chere were prizes for the scramble teams who staggered in at two and three over par. The League paid tribute to Bob for all his efforts in getting this off the fairway and he said plans are already in the works for next summer. i Any golfer interested in playing next year can drop in at the Antrim Pub on Water Street and speak to Dave. The VNEA 8-ball Pool League has started its second season of play at Centennial Lanes in Port Perry and here are the team results from the tables September 27.
