Much of her art portrays cats and glldfish. But why so many cats? "Cats just seem to be a popular image" she said. "Either you like them or you don't." The owner of three cats (or do they own her, she ponders?), she truly is a cat lover. And'what better feature to show with the cats than goldfish! She and her husband work as a team. While Ms. Parke creates the design, her husband cuts it out and adheres the base coat while she produces the finishing touches, such as the eyes and noses "to show their whimsical expressions". Most of Ms. Parke's work is made out of aluminum, added with a touch of wood and, in some cases, pieces of steel wire are formed to make anything imaginable and inconceivable. You'll enjoy the statuesque moose and "mountie" clocks, along with her versions of the cavemen. ® ad TERRY FAIERS Years Expenence NTRE 8B PORT PERRY B 462 Paxton Street LIL 1LY (905) 985-3166 HEARING HOTLINE HEARING HOTLINE HEARING HOTLINE Now, in her early forties, Ms. Parke works out of her home studio in Toronto and often hes jewellery making at the liburton School of Fine Arts, or is setting up for another show. Water Street merchants may form association Merchants "and business people on Water Street and Highway 7A will meet this week to see if there is enough interest and support for a Water Street Business Association. The meeting is being organized by Rick McCoshen, who operates a barber shop and hair stylists on Water Street. He told the Citizen the idea is to create a voluntary association of businesses and merchants for self promotion and advertising campaigns designed to increase trade in this part of Port Perry. Business owners and managers from the entire length of Water Street as well as the two plazas on the south side of Highway 7A have been invited to attend the first meeting. He said from informal discussions about this idea with many business owners, the response "has been very positive." Once the association has been formed, he said he would like to see'some kin{ of special promotion held each month. He stressed this is a voluntar} association with no up-front fees to join. However, would be expect. to share the cost of the monthly promotions and special events. He estimates there are about 100 different businesses along Water Street and in the two plazas.
