McCormack runs as Reeve of Mariposa Councillor Stan McCormack has announced that he will campaign to become the Reeve for the Township of Mariposa. McCormack has presented his particular position at Council with vigour and determination, a position formed from research of the facts surrounding the issue and from listening to the affected es. He believes the business of Council would be conducted efficiently and effectively if all members could agree on a similar approach to the solution of issues. In this regard McCormack believes the Reeve has the primary responsibility to demonstrate these attributes and to ensure that the opportunity to be heard is extended not only to members of council, but also to include ratepayers desirous of partici in the develop of a particular policy. The new Council would decide precisely how this will occur. VAN CAMP & KELLER Chartered Accountants 204 CASIMIR STREET, PORT PERRY 085-9725 The revisions to the Planning Act -- expected to become law in December or January will require a new look at the local planning process. McCormack believes that a strong and informed voice is required at the County Level to ensure that transition to the new policies is carried out efficiently and with the interests of the municipalities foremost. It is a role for which he is prepared. McCormack believes that Mariposa is a fine example of a rural township with a significant number of single family dwelling residents, made up of commuters and those who have graduated from the work force. He believes that the Council must demonstrate sensitivity to all residents in order to ensure a vibrant community, and finally McCormack believes that his education, experience, and diverse background ' has equipped him to provide leadership to Council as its Reeve. Alice Lee and Sandra Carriere, both RN's working in the hospital's New Life Centre wing, have been teaching the Lamaze classes for several years now. Both nurses say the best time to start the classes is in the early stages of pregnancy when the teaching focus is on nutrition, weight gain, fetal development and the hazards of smoking, drug and alcohol abuse. Also, in these early stages, the mothers-to-be are taught toning, rest and relaxation exercises. Michelle told the Citizen the classes were good for her partner, Jamie, too. Not only did he attend all the classes but "he also knew what | was going through. He found the classes helpful and learned what was normal and what wasn't normal during the birth process". Because the choosing of a doctor and a hospital are two very important decisions to be made, tours are given of the Community Memorial Hospital by nurses who explain the benefits offered in the New Life Centre wing. The classes are kept to a maximum of ten couples to ensure individual attention and optimum discussion time. In Michelle's classes there were two other moms and their support ® persons. You ask any woman who's had a baby about her delivery and more than likely no two stories will be the same. Every woman experiences a different labour and birth, yet it's a normal process for them.
