Key-Bar Juveniles start to find the winning ways After a couple of losses in exhibition play to Markham & Pickering, both Double "A" clubs, and a win and a loss to Uxbridge, the Key-Bar office Equipment Juveniles have put together three wins, one loss & one tie in league play. After a disappointing loss of 8-1 to Ennismore in a lack lustre game on Oct. 13, our lone goal coming from Sean McEnaney set up by Mike O'Laison and Scott Wylie, we came to life against Uxbridge with a solid effort and a 6-3 win. Another 6-2 win against Sunderland in a chippy affair, and another 6-3 win over Uxbridge last Thursday night. Goal scorers in the last win over Uxbridge were Sean McEnaney (3 goals), Captain Jeff Card (2 goals & 2 assists), Jeremy Norton (1 goal & 2 assists). Other assists went to Lou Whitfield (2), Jeff Vernon (2), Jason Brown, Darrell Vanderligt and Jason Philips each with one. Both goaltenders Matt Willetts and Mike Tripp have been very steady in all three wins. On Sat. night, Oct. 29 at Oakwood arena against a big, strong Mariposa club, and very poor officiating, our club minus four key players due to prior commitments leaving only ten skaters, dug way down in the last period to pull out a 4-4 tie after being down 4-2 going into the last period. Mariposa scored the first goal of the game at 8:16, and with less than three minutes left in the period, Jeremy Norton tied the score after a beautiful set up from Darrell Vanderligt, the other assist going to Jeff Vernon. The second period belonged to Mariposa, after scoring three unanswered goals, Jeff Vernon scored on the power play from Darrell Vanderligt and Jeremy Norton. Going into the third period, down now to nine skaters due to a game misconduct for fighting to Mike O'Laison, Port checked with authority and cut down the Mariposa attack and waited for a break to try and get back into it. The break came with only 5 1/2 minutes left in the third period, when Mariposa took a 5 minute major penalty. Working out of our end, Darrell Vanderligt took a nice pass from Jeremy Norton, worked it down into enemy territory, kept control until Chad Garvock got himself free in the slot and fed a beautiful pass to Chad who one timed it into the net ¢ Still on the power play with the clock running down, Jeremy Norton gained possession at centre ice, moved deep into the end zone, fed a pass to Jeff Vernon who noticed Mike Labanovich standing at the side of the net. Mike made no mistake on the shot making the score 4-4. 1m Grosvenor ... fora Common Sense COUNCILLOR | Shd On November 14th, vote for ... Joe Broadworth has been rock solid on defence the last few games and has logged a lot of ice time without complaint. What a nice asset he brings to this hockey club. Assistant coach & trainer Jamie Menzies and his Head Coach Dave Barkey are very pleased to have David Menzies back as manager after a two year absence. Brett Puckrin who was a stand out on last years All- Ontario Juvenile team, signed on as assistant coach working with the defencemen. The toaching staff are pleased with the hustle from the team the last few games and fees that good things are about to happen from here to the end of the season. Home games are Thursday nights at 9:15 pm. So come on out and help support this team. This Thursday Nov. 3, Sunderland is here at > pm. Port girls rise to the challenge Port Perry IGA Juniors travelled to Ajax, Saturday evening, nervous with the fact they had to face a team who host five players tothe Regional Elite team \ Port decided to meet that challenge, with a quick first goal from Shona Moase, set up by Janna Senyk minutes into the game. It took the girls some time to warm up. Picking up the pace a little, Lisa Bonser hit the net again with help from Cara Vander Slagt. Ajax then netted their first to make it 2-1. Port found themselves shorthanded while a penalty was being served. This was Ajax's chance to make it a tie game. Shona thought otherwise netting a shorthanded goal with Janna's help again. Making it 3-1 at the end of the first. Port stood their ground early in the second period. Janna this time setting up Jennifer Elliot. Cara and Shona both took turns ragging the ring and with 5 seconds left in one of the penalties, Shona wound up and snapped a wrist shot that hit the top corner. The girls let loose and the more penalties the refs gave the more Port scored. Four shorthanded goals in all. Added to the scoring were Lisa and Shona again, and Laura Hooker's last goal whizzed by the Ajax goalie's ear. Assists went to Laura, Janna, Cara, and Brook Shanley. One goal was missed in all the excitement, Jennifer. sneaked one in with a rebound off of Dana Hooker's skate. Ajax not to be out done, got tired of fooling around and hit Port's net with 21 seconds left in the game. Making the final score Port Perry IGA's 9, Ajax 2.
