Port Juniors win two as sponsor receives award The Port Perry IGA Junior A Ringette team took to the ice Saturday at noon in Mississauga in the first of two games over the weekend. This turned out to be a fast paced game against a well disciplined squad but'Port had a definite edge in many aspects. The stamina which coaches Stenyk, Shanley and Hooker have already built into the players allowed them to control play from start to finish. The shots on net were accurate, and came often. Rarely did the host team come with the ring from a scrum as Port boasts some of the best checkers in the league. The final score was 7=2 in Port's favour and the goals were shared among six players. In fact, everyone shared in the scoring with either a goal or assist to give you an indication of how well rounded this team is. Dana Hooker, Lisa Bonser, Shona Moase, Laura Hooker, Cara Vander Slagt, Diane Vander Ligt and Janine Ee | The Port Perry Key-Bar Office Equipment Juveniles (In white) were In action on home Ice last | Thursday night and defeated visiting Sunderland by a 3-1 score. . Hammond with a pair got the goals. While all the goals were important the fans were delighted that Janine's famous cross bar shots decided to go in for a change. Lisa scored® short-handed goal early in the first on long pass from Cara, and late in the second, Cara scored with just three Port skaters on the ice. It came off a near impossible pass from Natasha. Port Perry's very strong defense unit of Brooke, Boni-Jo, Janna and Natasha--anchored by Katie Senyk in goal, were an equal part of this and all the games the Juniors pay. The goals against remain low because opposition players can't get through the wall thrown up by these players, and when they do, Katie is standing tall in net. On Sunday, the Juniors were host to Markham A's at the Scugog Arena, and came away with another victory. + After a pre-game presentation to Jim Grieve of the IGA for his long time sponsorships and support of ringette, a fast-paced penalty-filled underway. Katie Senyk faced 25 shots in this one and was able to stop all but one of them. Once again the defense square did its work well, with fine digging by Boni-Jo. Janine began the scoring on a pass from Lisa, followed by goals by Brooke and Dana. At the end of the first, Jill put a beauty behind the Markham goalie on a clever play that began with Brooke, picked up by Lisa and then passed to Jill's stick in front of the net. Katie had to be especially sharp in the second as Port was down two skaters due to penalty. Half-way through the period, Laurainally got the first Port shot away and buried it behind the goalie. With the penalty boxes filled and each team with just three skaters, Cara made no mistake on a pass from Bonni-Jo. It looked like Katie would record her first shut-out of the season, but Markham was able to get its lone goal of the game. The final was 6-1 in Port's favour. game got Broomball action The Blackstock Brewers kept pace with the league front runners with a 2-0 win over the Framer's Gallery to start this week's play.
