= 30-- Scugog Citizen - Tuesday, CITIZEN SPORTS Leslie continues on a torrid scoring pace Led by veteran forward Keith Leslie, the Port Perry MoJacks ganged up on the visiting Sutton Ice Sunday night at the Scugog Arena to take a 6-1 victory, thejr third in as many outings. Leslie fired the hat trick for his 20th goal of the campaign and chipped in with an assist as well to give him a team leading 27 points. Leslie got his 18th of the season in the first period as the teams exchanged goals, and late in the opening frame he clicked for his second on the power play with help from Mike Pigeau and captain Gavin Cochrane. Midway through the second, Leslie and Pigeau combined again on the power play with Leslie finishing off the play from the slot area for his 20th of the season. [) A minute later, MoJacks went up 4-1 as Kevin Vivian found the range with assists to Bremnor and Jamie More. Scott Heasman and Leslie got the helpers on this one. MoJacks were never in serious trouble in this game as they built their lead and used strong checking to keep the Icemen at bay. Last Tuesday night in Uxbridge, Leslie continued to hold a hot hand as he fired the hat trick to lead the team to a 5- 2 win over the Bruins. Leslie's three goals gave him 16 for the season (in 15 games) and with six assists he leads the team with 22 points. Trevor Bremner and Duane Empringham rounded out the scoring for the MoJacks with Empringham adding an assist as well. Gavin Tackney and John Liriano replied for the Bruins. MoJacks outshot the Bruins 33- 28 in this one and Rick Hutchinson turned in a solid game in the nets. MoJacks finally returned to home ice at the Scugog Arena on Thursday night for a tilt with the Little Britain Merchants. They were less than hospitable hosts as they took advantage of some shaky Merchant netminding for a 6-3 win. Merchants opened the game with a flourish and held a wide margin in play during the first period. . Jeff Darrach staked the visitors to a 1-0 lead at 6:36 as he beat James Paterson on the glove side with Mark McGill getting credit for the assist. Early in the second, Chris Lock went upstairs from a sharp angle to give Merchants a 2-0 lead and the MoJacks were having all kinds of trouble moving the puck from their own zone. MoJacks finally got a puck behind Ryan West in the The Port Perry MoJacks spent a good part of last Thursday's game roaming in the Little Britain zone and came away with a 6-3 win at the Scugog Arena. At 13:27, Chad Kearns lofted a waist-high floater that completely hand-cuffed the Merchant goalie and the score was suddenly knotted at deuces. Less than a minute later, Todd Stirling fired one that West seemed to have under control, but the puck went off the trapper and into the net. That made it 3-2 and at 16:58 captain Gavin Cochrane made it 4-2 as he scored on a screened shot from the face-off circle with Mike Pigeau getting the assist. But the MoJacks were not finished yet as Scott Heasman fooled West with a shot along the ice in the dying seconds of the middle period to give the team a 5-2 lead heading into the Port Perry YMCA holds basketball programs for kids 8-13 years of age every Wednesday evening at the Cawker Public School. Merchants made an effort to get back into this one as Brad Lewis scored from the slot at the 50 second mark with help from Dan Wardlaw to cut the margin to 5-3. But the MoJacks got into their tight checking mode and did a pretty decent job shutting down the Merchants the rest of the way. Keith Leslie rounded out the scoring at 18:05 with his 17th of the campaign. Linemates Pigeau and Todd Dennis worked the puck in the Merchant zone before feeding the pass to Leslie who was all alone in the slot. He doesn't' miss too often when presented with this kind of opportunity. This was a chippy game throughout and late in the third tempers really flared after a scramble in the Merchant crease. The main combatants were Ryan Ridgway and Kirk Robertson. Ridgway found himself pinned flat on his back while Robertson threw several punches but he managed to get to his feet and then sl d the words it must have worked as they looked like a different team in the final 40 minutes. SLAPSHOTS: It was a tough weekend for the Uxbridge Bruins as they were defeated 5-1 Friday night on home ice and then 5-4 Sunday night at the hands of the Lakefield Chiefs. The three victories this week 'pushed the MoJack season record to ten wins, five losses and two ties for 22 points and they have a secure grip on second place in the Central Junior C League behind the Bowmanville Eagles. Those same Eagles will be in Port Perry this coming Saturday night, Nov. 26 to take on the MoJacks at 8:00 PM. This should be a dandy contest as the MoJacks are the only team to defeat the Eagles so far this season. Not only is Keith Leslie leading the team in scoring, he has yet to spend a minute in the penalty box. He has been skating very well in recent games and along with regular duties and the power play, he has been seeing time as a penalty killer--a good indication of how valuable he is big Merchant captain to the ice before the officials could get them separated. : After the poorly played first period, MoJacks were late returning to the ice for the second. If coach Brad Menzies was giving them a few choice to the team. Don't forget, next home game for the MoJacks is this Saturday. night at 8:00 PM against the league leading Eagles.
