wy 34 -- Scugog Citizen -- day, Ni ber 21, 1994 _-- Port Juniors clip Scarborough by 5-2 score Sunday morning saw Port's IGA Juniors at Malvern Arena in Scarborough. This exhibition match was dominated by Port Perry, although the competition challenged our authority throughout the game. It took just 25 seconds for Janine Hammond to put in a rebound from Laura Hooker. An over-confident Port Perry team peppered Scarborough's goalie with belly shots, but were stymied until Cara VanderSlagt's backhand found the magic corner on a pass from Janine Hammond. The 2-0 lead disappeared as Scarborough popped two past Jennifer Hammond and our defence. Jen, borrowed from Port's Tween team for this match, played smart and sharp, adding to Port's breakout plays. Shona Moase found the scoring touch in the second period with assists to Diane Vanderligt and Cara anderSlagt. Final: 4-2 for Port Perry Realizing that this first game effort would not muster against Pickering, Port's IGA Juniors regrouped. Still, it took a 2-0 deficit to wake up the Port Perry team and score 5 unanswered goals for a 5-2 victory against a chippy Pickering team. Temptations to retaliate against their opponents were held in check and this discipline will help in future games. Lauren Christie, borrowed from Port's Tween team, played a sparkling game - shutting out the Pickering team in the second period. Lisa Bonser's hard blasts handcuffed the Pickering goalie twice. Heads up passing plays by Laura Hooker and Natasha Burgess set up Lisa's goals. Shona Moase followed Lisa's example and powered a high corner shot assisted by Cara VanderSlagt. Once again, Cara's backhand foiled the Pickering goaltender. The individual effort award goe®to Bonni-Jo Norton who picked up a sharp pass from Janna Senyk, broke low through two opposing defence and blasted a shot past the Pickering goal keep. A formidable Whitby team is our next opponent and they will be out to put an end to Port Perry's winning streak. Girls - be prepared. Port's IGA Juniors also welcome back their six members from a recent Ontario-wide. All-Star Challenge Cup in Stratford. These five banner ringette teams are gearing up for the biannual Ontario Winter Games this March. # "SPORT STATS" sponsored by PINERIDGE SPORTS Sporting Goods * Silk Screening * Sports Wear * Trophies & Engraving 985-2839 Uniforms The bonsplel season at Port Perry Curling Club opened last week with a ladles open event Spx d by Mother Schmidt. of Port Perry.
