Scala takes on Uxbridge team With Emiels out of town at a tournament, Scala Bros. had the pleasure of hosting the Uxbridge Peterson Aggragates... This game featured end to end action with some great passing. Port Perry opened the scoring as Jon Rogalski was left alone on the doorstep to shovel in a rebound from Tom Boyd's shot. Uxbridge replied in the 1st period with 2 goals to take the lead. Scott Peterson for Uxbridge made a single effort and rifled a shot past goaltender Devon Symes to tie the game 1 apiece. The second goal was a tough one as the puck was shot out from the corner and hit Devon's catchers glove to deflect into the net. Port Perry fought back to tie the game as Ian Garnet made several nifty dekes around the defense to find himself alone with the goaltender. He put a shot low in the corner. Half way thru the third period Uxbridge pressed hard and their efforts paid off with 3 late goals. Give credit where credit is due - Uxbridge defense was nothing short of excellent. Player of the game: for Scala was tough to pick as 16 players played their best game to date. But we will go with Ryan Haslam. Ryan had great defensive skills as well as rushing plays to get the puck out of our end. We thank Uxbridge for a great game and sportsmanship. Laurentian over the Lions The Game between Laurentian Bank and the Port Perry Lions club was a fast paced high scoring affair in Atom House League action. " Lions scored first but the bankers came back again and again. Three times in the first Tweens shut out Whitby Game 6 for the Pineridge Sports Tween B's was played on home ice against Whitby and our girls were winners once again - final score 4-0. Lauren Christie in net for Port Perry, had a shut-out this game and it was no easy feat. The Whitby team made numerous shots but with the aid%f the goal posts, our goalie was able to fend these shots off. The play was fast this game with both teams carrying the ring back and forth. Our first goal of the game was a smooth one by Melissa Hooker on a pass from Emelie Levielle. Jennifer Hammond finished off the first period netting a nice goal unassisted. The second period saw several attempts by the Pineridge girls before the "Jen" duo of Jen Imrie and Jen Donnelly carried the ring down the ice to score. Our final goal of the game was a nice play by Jackie Smith to Jennifer Hammond who found the net for her second of the game. Cathy Cooper and Kim Carrique showed excellent defensive coverage this game. Forwards Leanne Davison, Leanne Holt, Mary Justynski and Amy Wilson played another skillful game. Congratulations girls - keep up the good work. Next game Ngyv. 29th in Pickering Village. period Laurentian managed to tie it up with the frame ending even three goals a piece. The second period featured some great defensive plays, Graham Ingram managed to outperform for the Bankers while Joshua Griffin roared back for the Lions to break up plays at the blue line. There are far fewer breakaways in the Atom age group then with the younger players. I am sure this is because of improved defencemen. The game came down to a dramatic final two minutes. The bankers were protecting a two point margin when they were charged with a penalty. The Lions two man advantage was short-lived however as they received a minor penalty of their own. By now there was little time left, the Lions, puiled their 'goalie for an extra attacker but the Bankers managed to clear the puck a couple of times and hang on to the victory. Goal scorers for Lions were BJ Schaump and Mike Blakey with assists to Mike Sytsma, Luke Pilkey and Mathew Douglas. Collecting points for Laurentian were Pierce Jones, Ryan May, Derek Ellicott, Stormy Wootton, Stewart Cochrane and Chris Gloster. The final score was Laurentian Bank 7 - Lions Club 5.
