pr Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, November 29, 1994 --33 «a Auctioneers hand Stouffville 5-2 defeat On Monday, Nov. 21st, Port Perry Pearce Auctiogeers Major Novice won a hard fought game against Stouffville, There was end to end action with a score of 1-0 for Stouffville at the end of the first Kevin Robins scored for Port Perry 17 seconds into the second period to tie the game but Stouffville came back at 8:38 to again take the lead. Jesse Mischitian, who was brought from house league to sub for an absent player, scored at 6:16 to make it a tie game going into the third period, when the Aucti turned The defence, Justin Shinn, Ryan Hnatko, Gordon Smith and Justin Koury made some excellent plays, stopping several Stouffville rushes and getting the puck up to the forwards. Tyler Weisflock, Alex Nicolau, Lucas Fraser, Jordon Froats, Pat Lewis, Jésse Mischitian, Kevin Robins, Joey Lane and Teddy Howarth skated hard keeping the pressure on the Stouffville defence and goaltenders. Jesse and Pat both scored in the third period and Joey completed the up the heat. scoring by dumping one in' Stouflville's empty net in the last minute of play. The combination of aggressive forwards, good defence and great goaltending by Beott Honey and Kurtis Wagar prevented Stouffville from scoring again making it 5-2 for the Auctioneers. Assists in the game went to Teddy Howarth, Joey Lane, Tyler Weisflock and two for Gordon Smith. The Pearce Auctioneers met with the Peterborough Nationals for the first time on Friday night. The Nationals were up two goals in the first period. Our defence of Justin Koury, Ryan Hnatko, Justin Shinn and Gordon Smith cleared our end helping goalies Scott Honey and Kurtis Wagar in the scoreless second period. The third period turned around when Peterborough scored again, and our forwards of Kevin Robins, Joey Lane, Jesse Mischitian, Teddy Howarth, Tyler Weisflock, Alex Nicolau, Lucas Fraser, Jordan Froats and Pat Lewis turned up the heat and kept the pressure on, resulting in two goals by Kevin Robins and Teddy Howarth on some great breakaways. The Nationals scored another bringing the score to 4-2. On Sunday the Auctioneers travelled to Belleville, this was their second meet with this team. It was end to end action the whole game Kurtis Wagar and Scott Honey were solid in net against the ever pressing Belleville squad. Kevin Robins shot one past the Belleville net minder with an assist to Joey Lane late in the first period. At the end of the second period Joey Lane _popped one in off the stick of Jordan Froats. The Auctioneers all tried their best and worked hard in this second game. The Pearce Auctioneers next home game is Friday night for the first meeting with Lindsay and a tournament on the weekend in Beaverton. Good Luck Guys. Techstar comes up empty in Bobcaygeon On Saturday, Nov. 19th the Techstar Bantams were in the Bobcaygen Tournament. In their first game the Techstars faced the Red Wings. The Techstars looked abnormally brutal that morning and the score showed it. After three long periods the Red Wings came away with a 5-0 win. In their second game of the day Panthers This past week the Midget A Panthers played two games - one in Port on Monday Nov. 21st and then again the following evening at the 'Old Barn' in Cobourg. They were scheduled to play a league game against Trénton on ' Monday. However, due to the 'Golden Hawks' not being 'late night birds', this game was cancelled and an exhibition game with-Bowmanville was hastily arranged. It appeared to be just what the doctor ordered...our Panthers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with goals by Matt Hobbs (on a breakaway), Kenton LeFort (coming out from the corner and jamming it home) and Kevin Hobbs (with a blast from the blue line). Assisting on these goals were lan McCready, Daryl Bourgeois, Jay King, Eric Hudson, Greg Thompson and Matt Hobbs. Bowmanville hung in and finally managed to score their lone goal of the night to end the first period 3-1. Port Perry finished, their evening by scoring a goal in the second and third periods for a final 5-1 victory. In the second lan Shrigley was set up in the slot by Greg Thompson and slipped it home. Later in the third, Craig Laird fired a rocket at the net - 'right on target'. Matt Hobbs ended a big night assisting on both of these goals. Alas we were not to have the talents of Matt Hobbs with us the following evening (owing to a slight dispute he and the Bowmanville goalie exchanged). Also not with us in Cobourg was Tommy Chambers. However, following a big Bantam win in an earlier game that same evening, Shane Norton and Jay Strickert filled in admirably for our preoccupied Panthers. We were ready...starting things off on the right foot was Craig Laird unassisted, who managed not only a goal but a re-bound attempt as well...would it be counted twice??? No, only once but we're on the board and geared to play. Next our 'fire ball' Kenton makes his usual quick get away but a Cobourg player zooms in on him to 'crush' his efforts!!! Scottie manages a big save during this penalty and Port comes away they faced another team from their league, the Oshawa Blackhawks. The Techstars looked a little better this game. Apparently the refs forgot * that hockey is a contact sport as they gave the Techstars three penalties on three clean hits in the game. The Blackhawks scored two power play goals and were up 2-0 early in the first. The Blackhawks added one more before the Techstars finally got on the board. The first Techstar goal was cored by Dave Gainey. The score at the end of the first period was 3-1 Blackhawks. In the second period the Blackhawks added two more goals. With just 18 seconds left in the second Dave Gainey scored his second goal of the game, with assists to Gavin Baxter and Ryan Puckrin. The only goal in the third was claw Bowmanville unscathed. Plenty of pucks are flying off the rink and into the stands keeping 'one dad busy retrieving..Think the Panthers will sign you Ivan??? We failed to capitalize on a good opportunity when Cobourg's aggressive pursuit lands them in hot water. With six attackers on and Scottie on the bench things are really heating up. Unfortunately we fall short on this penalty advantage and at the end of the first the score is still 1-1. Big Ian has been firing them fast and furious from the blueline--surely one of them will go in before the night is through!!! Yes indeed, #55 comes alive with a 'blast from the past' and it's a hit! This big goal is assisted by Kevin Hobbs and Jay Strickert. The Panthers are really working together and it shows. Later in the second with some real teamwork from Jeremy, Craig, Jay and Ian Shrigley, Kenton sneaks one in the corner to increase the boys lead to 3-1. Way to go guys that's what Warren likes to see! It's Scott's turn to shine when Cobourg makes a sudden attack but he snuffs out their fire several times until finally they counter attack and moye within one. Now they're hungry for more but the Panthers are not about to let up. Jeremy, as always, makes some superlative moves up the ice and almost wangles us another goal which seems to inspire everyone. After the flood (and much needed warm up for some frozen fans) both teams are geared for a great third period. Unfortunately Cobourg manages to pull one out of théir hat and we're tied 3-3. It's a fight to the finish and as the seconds wind down the game ends in a 3-3 tie. The Panthers have shown they can play well against their on-going rivals. Good job everyone!! The next morning they played Brampton in game three of the tournament. Although they were unable to advance even with a win they definitely wanted to get back on the winning track. The Techstars stroke first at 5:42 when Dillan Weber scored assisted by Troy Campbell. The 1-0 score held till halfway through the second when Brampton tied it up. The Techstars got that one back when Gavin Baxter scored assisted by Ryan Puckrin to make it 2-1. Brampton tied it up then took the lead before the second period ended. Early in the third, Scott "Canon" Harper shot one in from the point to tie it up at 2 all. Gavin Baxter and Dave Gainey assisted on that one. The Techstars struck again late in the game when Troy Campbell scored assisted by Scott Sanderson and Dillan Weber. They managed to get one more before the end of the game. Gavin Baxter scored to make it 5-3. Dave Gainey and Ryan Puckrin assisted on that one. On Nov. 23rd, they were back home in Port Perry for a league game against the Oshawa Bruins. The Techstars looked terrible the first two periods. The Bruins went to the dressing room with a 5-3 lead. The Techstars goals were scored by Dillan Weber, Dave Gainey and Troy Campbell with Glen McCreedy, Scott Sanderson (2), Ryan Puckrin, Gavin Baxter and Dillan Weber assisting. A change in the lines seemed to work as the Techstars began to look like they should out there. Dave Kaminga struck early with asdists going to Adam 'Bullet' Brain and Troy Campbell. The Techstars struck again less then 8 minute later when Ryan Puckrin assisted by Troy Campbell tied the game. The Bruins regained the lead a short time later. The score was 6-5. Scott Sanderson tied it up with assists going to Dillan Weber and Dave Gainey. They took the lead a minute later when Dave Gainey got his second assisted by Scott Sanderson and Glen Dave Gainey completed the hat trick late in the game from Scott Sanderson and Dillan Weber, to make it an 8-6 win for the Techstars. The Techstars next home game is the long awaited rematch against their "Arch Rival® Peterborough Nationals. After a 6-3 loss last time, the Techstars want blood and its going to be one heck of a hockey game. The opening face-off is at 7:30 on Wed.
