mp Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, February 21,1995 --23 _4= Juveniles Sat Bradford from a | The Port Perry Key-Bar Office Equipment Juveniles have bounced Bradford out of the all- Ontario playoff series. And they did it right in "'Bradford Saturday with a strong two-way performance that resulted in a 5-3 victory. Key-Bar won the series with eight points to three by Bradford, and in the next playoff round Port Perry will meet either Beeton or Innisfil. Saturday's series' ending victory for Key-Bar featured Fort PANTY Curing Gul wai the acane on Satay oF 4 Ladles 'Bonsplel sponsored by Port Perry Auto Glass and Trim. The rink of Pat Mark, skip (second from left), Patti Goreski, Jean Symes and Joy Rennick came out on top with 45 points. Runner up just a single point behind was the rink skipped by Carol Jackson. Kelly Evans (at left) presented the trophy to the winning team. Bantams battle Clippers The Country Style Bantams, being tied 1 game a piece with the Stouffville Clippers, played the third game of the series on Feb. 16th at Scugog Gardens, and man oh man. What a farce of a sham. We still haven't learned that we must play a total of 3 periods in order to.swin a hockey game. In this one we played a couple of minutes in the first, a few in the second, and then came out flying in the third. "We can't leave our game in the dressing room like that", replied Todd after a very disappointing loss. "We're putting ourselves through a test. We are now forced to win two in a row. We can do it, though. We've won plenty of games right in a string, before. And now I have to go out and buy a new water bottle holder." Our first goal was scored by captain Scotty Heffern. He banged in a rebound from a shot by little Adam Hobbs. Rob Murphy also picked up an assist. It was three to one after two periods for the opposition. We had a great third, though and we would've killed them if we played like we did in' the third right from the word go. Tindall and Hobbs scored for us in the third, before Stouffville added another two, including an empty netter. The final score was 5-3, Stouffville. Shawn Hnatko suffered a knee injury, after colliding with a Stouffville defender. He's listed as day to day, but I'm sure he'll be in the lineup as soon as possible. On Sunday, Feb. 19th, we journeyed to the village, to try and give ourselves new life. We won this one, 9-5. at a showing. Blades, Lee' and Cardy were all happy with the effort, urging us to be ready for the next game. The official sheet isn't available, but we'll have a complete game summary and thought from the players and coaching staff, next 'wéek, along with the results of last night's matchup. This week's player profile is on Nick Skerratt. Skerratt's profile is the last one on the list, making 'er extra special. (When 1 first started these profiles, I thought I'd never get through them all.) Skerratt is a big oe (Feb. 20th) defenceman, who just lo barreling in off the point, ai crushing an opponent. Nick's shot is a boomer. In Sunday night's game, he sniped two with that weapon of his. What a thinker. Nick talks it up in the room, and is a great guy to have on your team. When asked about his cannon, Skerratt replied, "Well, ever since the beginning of the year, Lairdy's been helping me with my shot. I think that it's getting better all of the time. I team's with it, putting it in the net, wait a minute. I guess that makes it a weapon, don't it?" What a guy, Nick Skerratt. Come on out and watch Nick let 'er go. He's a sniper, so be sure to sit some where, where there's, plenty of glass. ¢ numerous penalties as it was obvious Bradford's game plan was to get Port players into the penalty box and then go to work on the power play. It didn't work, however, as Key-Bar faced every challenge, including a very hostile crowd. The B coach was tossed from the game in the second period with a misconduct and gross misconduct penalty. Bradford took a 2-1 lead after the first period with Mike "Jackson getting both goals and captain Jeff Card replying for Port Perry. The team came to life in the middle frame with four un- answered goals to own a commanding 5-2 lead. Darrell Vanderligt and Jody Logan had singletons, while Jeremy Norton clicked for a pair in the final two minutes of the period. Coach Dave Barkey moved Norton from the point up to the wing late in the period and it certainly paid off as Norton cashed in with two excellent efforts. Defenseman Steve Stiles helped the cause for Key-Bar with two assists in this one. Coach Barkey had words of praise for the way his team played at both ends of the ice, especially in the final frame when Key-Bar effectively shut down the Bradford attack and kept their cool in the process. Jeff Card and Jeff Vernon turned in outstanding efforts in a penalty killing role and Mike Tripp between the irons came up with numerous key saves when they were needed most. MoJacks lead series 3-1 after Monday victory The Port Perry MoJacks have taken a 3-1 lead in games over the Sutton Ice after a 5-2 victory Monday night in Sutton. MolJacks were missing several key players and got outstanding efforts from Jeremy Geer, Jeremy Norton and Steve Stiles, pressed into service from the Port Perry Midget and Juvenile teams. MoJacks took command of the game in the second period with three straight goals, and at one point in the third led by a Panther series The quarter final .series between the Port Perry Panthers Midget #1 team and Cobourg got underway on Feb. 12th at the arena in Cobourg. The Panthers, who are sponsored by Lakeside Golf and Hockey Centre, got things going early as the strong fore- checking by the line of Greg Thompson, Tom Chambers and Kevin Hobbs in the Cobourg end finally paid off with Greg slipping one by a startled goalie. This early goal seemed to wake up Cobourg 'as' they stormed back with two goals of their own to end the first period with a 2-1 lead. In the second the Panthers roared back to take the lead as Craig Laird scored two goals. The first was on a nice set up by Chris Drury and Jeff Clarke. On his second goal, the Cobourg defence fell asleep as he was allowed to skate out from the corner untouched to score the Panthers third don't rider it a pon, like some do, but if I get the chance to use'er, I'll kill the qther Daryl Bourgeois drew an assist on the goal, the game continued to be a see-saw battle as Cobourg rallied to tie the game. Shortly after this, Ian Shrigley restored the Panthers one goal lead as he skated in from the point and drilled a shot past a screened goalie. Cobourg didn't give up and managed to tie the game at four in the last minute of the second period. In the third, the Panthers put an end to this roller coaster game as they shut down the Cobourg offence and g ted their own to the turn of three goals. Ian Shrigley picked up his sécopd of the night as he pounded on a lose puck at the side of the Cobourg net to five the Panthers the lead once 'Later in the period, Jay King blasted one betweem;the pads to give the Panthers the insurance they were looking for. To cap off the 7-4 win, Greg Thompson picked up his second goal by scoring into the empty net. Assists on the third period goals went to Jeff Jamieson, Matt Hobbs, Chris Drury and two by Jeremy Geer. comfortable 5-0 margin. Goalscorers were Jeremy Geer, Kevin Vivian, Mike Pigeau, lag Titterton and Chan Kearns. The win made it back to back victories for the jacks in this semi-final Junior C series, and gives them a chance to wrap things up in front of 'the hometown crowd this Thursday night at the Scugog Arena. Game time 8:30. See report on previous games in sports section of this edition of the Citizen. all tied This was a solid team effort as the Panthers played disciplined hockey and refused to panic when down early in the game. Scott Prechitko was superb between the pipes, and made some key saves when Cobourg was applying the pressure. Game 2 of the series was played Feb. 17th at the Scugog Arena, and it was a different Cobourg team that hit the ice this night. They were determined not to go home , down by two games as they totally shut down the Panthers. Their efforts were rewarded as they took the game by a score of 5-1. This loss by the Panthers ties the series at one game each. The Panthers lofie goal was scored by Ian ady with Matt Hobbs pi up.the assist on the goal.' Game 3 of the series goes Tuesday, Feb. 21st in Cobourg, >» with Game 4 scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24th at the Scugog Arena at 9:00. p.m. The Panthers hope all their friends will come out and cheer them on: "
