Busy time for Auctioneers The Pearce Auctioneer Novice Squad travelled to Stouffville Friday night for their second meet in the playoffs. The first period saw Kevin Robins score a great unassisted goal at the eight minute mark. Going into the second period our offensive attack came from the forwards of Alex Nicolau, Pat Lewis, Kevin Robins, Chet Martin, Teddy Howarth, Lucas Fraser and Jordan Froats. They kept the pressure on the Stouffville defense resulting in a goal by Chet Martin when he pucked up a pass from Justin Shinn. Stouffville's aggressive play allowed them to even up the score by the end of the second period. Goalies Scott Honey and Kurtis Wagar worked hard along with the defensive pairs of Justin Shinn, Justin Koury, Joey Lane and Gordon Smith. It was end to end action but at the three minute mark in the third period Stouffville scrambled to win 3-2. The Pearce Auction Major Novice team played a two day tournament in Bradford on Feb. 18th and Feb. 19th. The first game they played on Saturday was against Tottenham with Port Perry winning the game 6- 1. The first two periods were end to end action with Tottenham scoring the first goal of the game early in the second period. The Auctioneers quickly answered back with two unassisted goals, one from Gordon Smith and the other from Kevin Robins. With a 2-1 lead going into th¢ third period, the Port Perry turned up the heat to score four more goals, two coming in the last 8 seconds of play. Lucas Fraser, Pat Lewis, Jordan Froats and Kevin Robins picked up the goals with the assists going to Pat, Lucas, and two to Kevin. Youth Bowling Gord Smith got the game MVP for Port Perry. In their second game the Pearce Auction team met NobleKing and came out on the wrong end of a 4-3 score. The Auctioneers out-played and out- shot NobleKing, completely dominating the first petiod and keeping the pressure on throughout the game. The NobleKing goalie came up with some spectacular saves, earning the game MVP for his team. Kevin Robins earned the well deserved game MVP for Port Perry. Kevin scored Port, Perry's first goal assisted by Chet Martin and Lucas Fraser. Joey Lane and Lucas each scored for the Auctioneers in the third period. On Sunday morning, the Port Perry boys again played a strong game, this time against the Barrie Flyers. With only 42 seconds left in the first period, Barrie scored the first goal of the game. The Auctioneers quickly took over, 'scoring four goals in the second period. Jordan Froats scored from Alex Nicolau and Joey Lane, Kevin Robins scored from Chet Martin and Gord Smith, Tyler Weisflock scored from Kevin, and Kevin picked up his second goal of the game with assists going to Tyler and Chet. Barrie scored one in the second to make it 4-2 Port Perry going into the third period. Both teams continued to press in the third period, each picking up one more goal. For Port Perry, Jordan scored from Teddy Howarth and Alex Nicolau. The final score was 5-3 Port Perry, with Joey Lane picking up the game MVP for Port Perry. Throughout the entire tournament, the defense was outstanding. Justin Shinn, Joey Lane, Justin Koury and Gordon Smith played a solid three games, making many great plays to clear their end and help keep the pressure on the other teams. Scott Honey and Kurtis Wagar, sharing the goal tending duties, were as dependable as always, PEE WED fa both making several key saves. Port Perry tried hard to get on the board with rushes from Ashley Lucas and Michael Lycett, and hard shots on net by Keenan Geer and Jeff Tomcheski. Compton Cable's offensive chances were improved by Kory Bauer and Danny Halward's aggressive work on the line and boards in the offensive zone. Stouffville snipers still managed to score a couple of goals despite Taylor Churchill's heads-up defensive play. Nelson Langmaid put in a strong game breaking up two- on-ones and good penalty- killing. He also displayed an offensive flair. Great effort Compton Cable. We'll get them next year. The following weekend Compton Cable played a home- and-home exhibition series with Sunderland's #1 rep. team.
