Earlier this month, Craig , vice pr of CIBC Rohe Division turned over the cheque to Tim Duffin, national chairman of the OYF. It is the first installment of a year sponsorship by CIBC which wants to recognize the value of OYF in promoting the business and management aspects of agriculture in Canada, while r izing some of the The annual 'Have a Heart Valentine Food Drive' at Cawker School was a huge success this year with students and staff contributing 2689 items for Operation Scugog's Food Bank. The Drive was organized by class 73 with students collecting, sorting and packing the food. Mr. Duffin said nominees are judged according to progress in their agri careers in such areas as soil, water and energy conservation, crop and livestock production history; and contributions to the well being of their p and Sask., Alberta/NWT, and British Columbia/Yukon. Three are chosen from the seven regional winners to earn recognition as national outstanding farmers. Nomination deadlines for the 1995 program are rapidly approaching. Nomination forms nation. Scugog Council to start process for Region seat With the sudden passing over the weekend of councillor Yvonne Christie, the local council will start the process to appoint a successor to the Regional position. Advertisements will be placed seeking applications from qualified persons interested in the position. From these applications, the local council will make the appointment. If a member of the present Scugog council applies and gets the appointment, council can either seek applications for his or her seat, or call a by-election. He told the Citizen the process to fill the Regional seat on council will begin in the very near future, 'Durham Board pares its budget The Durham Board of Education budget has been pared from a projected six per cent to 8.5 percent, says Scugog trustee Bobbie Drew. Mrs. Drew said trustees are now in the preliminary stages of the 1995 budget and were able to pare the estimates by postponing renovations to schools and by taking about $1 million from reserve funds to cover the costs of implementing Junior Hillis on February 22nd |] Kindergarten. While trustees worked to bring the projected budget down, Mrs. Drew said they made_a dé&ision Saturday that the instrumental music programs in schools will not be touched this year. And trustees have lifted the three-year old hiring cap on the number of special education assistants. She said 11 additional assistants will be hired this term.
