" building Saturday, complete with ribbon cutting, cake, and punch amidst a multitude of friends, family and customers. Soon after graduating from the Jewellery Arts-Goldsmithing course at George Brown College two-and-a-half years ago, Dana opened up her jewellery store on the street level of the Dental Building. Operating out of a space of 108 square feet, she initially offered silver jewellery only. °° Today,.Dana operates out of a spacious 500 sq.ft. and offers a wide selection of fine silver, gold and pearl jewellery. Something So she's carrying is a selection of watches by Matiko of Canada, and offers batteries and many styles and sizes of jewellery boxes. All jewellery repairs, including watches, are done on the premises by Dana. Getting the former Beckers renovated and decorated since the closing date of October 31 has been hectic but well worth the effort. With the entire project being a family effort, Dana told the Citizen her husband, Dean, along with her parents, Don and Gloria Forder, and brothers, Chris and Joe, have all been instrumental in completing the building. While Dana and her mom looked after the painting and wallpapering, Dean, Chris and Joe did the ripping and tearing apart, repairing anything that needed fixing. "Dad supervised" Dana smiled. "He made sure everything was OK". After the original building had been destroyed by fire in 1894 it was rebuilt soon after. A drug store was the first business to come and go. A few years later the Standard Bank took over. In fact when the crew was busy with the renovations they discovered the original walk-in vault from that era which is fully functional still. Next came the IGA/Superior Grocery store. At the ribbon cutting ceremony last Saturday, Mayor Hall related how he worked at that store during his high school days in the forties and continued after his marriage. Now fully restored, the building shows the original 1884 tin ceiling, along with all the incipient windows. Town historian, Paul Arculus, praised the Forders for their extensive and expensive restoration, saying "you've set a standard for the entire town". Offering a wide selection of fine jewellery, Dana will also be glad to design that special piece. No job is too small or too big. Dana's is open seven days a week during the winter, Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and-on Sundays from noon to five.
