Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, March 14, 1995 -- 15 4 Seniors learn they've walked a lot of miles by Stan Rickard Dr. Joseph Schneider, Chiropodist, was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Port Perry Seniors Cl Wednesday, March 8. Dr. Schneider held thé attention of all those present with his masterful presentation of "Foot Care". He also distributed informatien pamphlets which supplemented his address. From this presentation it was stated that during an average lifetime a person will walk around the world three times or about 70,000 miles. This means that, by now, most Seniors will have walked around the world at least twice or more than 50,000 miles! The foot is one of the most complicated structures known to mankind. It has 26 bones, 56 ligaments and 38 muscles. Several simple recommendations were suggested to promote good foot health: (1) Buy your shoes late in the day. (2) A good athletic shoe is recommended for all occasions except swimming and weddings! (3) Some "Arch" enemies mostly affect people who stand all day on hard inflexible surfaces. (4) Heel spurs are usually caused by foot stress and arch problems. (5) A callous is usually formed when the foot has to absorb too much pressure or friction. shows which have been lined up for the Seniors. She was kept busy before and after the meeting handling inquiries and registrations. Roy Grierson continued his report on the History of the Club during the 1970's. Durham Senior Games will again b@ held this year during the spring and summer months for various activities. The Port Perry Club will host the Contract Bridge Tournament on Friday, June 9 at the Latcham Centre. Tour Operator, Jacklyn Kerr, outlined the various trips and pleted the winter schedule on Monday, 'March 6. Winners were; 1st Helen Thomson, 2nd Klaas Bakker, 3rd Dave Dosterlo.
