With songs like "Polyester Polly Lit a Tire Fire in my Heart," and "I'm a Honky Tonk Donkey from Coboconk," it's clear that Hank knows something about life that has escaped the rest of us, everybody but Stompin' Tom Connors who Quite a show for 170 Olds The Performance World '95 Car Show in Toronto over the weekend proved to be quite a debut for Bob Henry of Scugog Township. Showing his 1970 Oldsmobile Rally 350 for the first time, ever Bob came home with first place trophies for the President's Choice, the Class Championship and Outstanding Street Stock. Bob, who owns Manchester Collision, bought the two-door hard-top at a flea market south of the border and spent the last four years working to restore it. Performance World '95 was his first show with this car and obviously all the hours of work over: the last four years have been more than worth it. Appearing with Washboard Hank and the Honkers that evening will be Canadian singer- song writer-story teller Bob Snider. Torontonian by birth, he now resides in Nova Scotia, and has several recordings to his credit. He has been described as a "brilliant, amazing song-writer and stage personality." It promises to be a great evening of "music to spin-dry by" at the Greenbank Hall. Tickets at $15 each are available at Circular Sounds, Irwin Smith Music, Chicken Coop Bakery or call 985-8351, 852-7578. The concert is sponsored by thé Greenbank Folk Music Society. The meeting is free and open to the public. Kamstra grew up in Oshawa, and since age ten has had an interest in plants and animals, especially reptiles and amphibians. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Trent University, and holds a Master's degree in Environmental Studies from York University. Presently he is a consultant with Gartner Lee Environmental Consulting firm. He serves on the volunteer committee of Ontario Herpetofaunal Atlas. The atlas documents teptiles and amphibians. If you have always wondered about these curious vertebrates, but were a little afraid to make contact with them, this is your opportunity to prepare yourself for their 'coming out' this spring. Kamstra's talk, titled Amphibians: Harbingerp of Spring, focuses on local species. His presentation incltdes information about the habitat and lifecycles of frogs and salamanders, and frog calls!
