Phyllis by Heather McCrae When Elvis Presley died in August 1977, people around the world mqurned his demise. But, thanks to countless fans of The King, his music continues to live today. One of those fans is Phyllis DeLine of Oshawa. In an interview last week, Phyllis told the Citizen she was a young mother raising a family in the mid-fifties when she saw Elvis for the first time on the Ed Sullivan Show. And, like millions across the nation, was infatuated with the sexy, charismatic singer and his gentle, soothing voice. Harbouring a secret love for Elvis since that time, it wasn't until 1991 when she became openly intrigued with the deceased King of Rock n' Roll. Phyllis: and her husband, George, were in Memphis that year visiting Elvis' home, Graceland. Infatuated by what she saw and learned about the star, she bought the book "The Last 24 Hours" by Albert Goldman, a biography of the singer's last living hours. Phyllis told the Citizen she was disgusted how the author defamed the singer. Prompted to read more about Elvis, she's now acquired over 120 books on the singer and also possesses every movie he ever made.
