There are shows playing of course but nothing that is at all noteworthy. There are more interesting things happening in the video store and on the movie network. I watched Steel Magnolias last night and I could have written a great column about that movie, but no one would be fooled into thinking it is a new releases In order to write a movie column every week I need to be inspired. I need a GRBAT MOVIE, I don't want you/guys getting bored with this ¢olumn or I may have to switch to writing a fishing 6r music column. No one wants to read a dull article. ' These columns are for fun so I need a FUN, great movie. Something so'powerful it will knock your socks off. I am pinning all my hopes on Rob Roy which is being released this Friday and I'm saving myself far Liam Neeson. The Oscars are over, so is the thrill of going to the show. What a dull time of year. It must be better busingss in the video industry right now, it is just the time when all of the great Oscar nominated films are coming out on video cassette. Taking a walk through the store and I see everything being released at the same time. Forrest Gump, The Lion King, Blue Skies, The Shawshank Redemption, Ed Wood & Quiz Show. The only one I haven't seen being released is Pulp Fiction. I'm looking forward to that one to see if I like it as much the second time around. It was nominated for seven awards and only won one for best screenplay. Each one of these . make for a great evening at home. This week I rented "A Simple Twist of Fate" with Steve Martin. It is a story about a man who is about to become a father. He finds out from his wife that the baby she is carrying isn't his. He leaves her and becomes a recluse in a small town where no one knows him or his history. : Through a simple twist of fate another baby girl is delivered to him after the death of the mother. Not too many laughs so far. The mother of the baby is a heroine addict and dies on Steve's front porch, the politician father (Gabrielle Bryne) won't come forward and the thief that steals all of Steve's money mysteriously disappears and is discovered at the bottom of a quarry 10 years later. I love Steve Martin, and Catherine O'Hare is so funny. Steve's body language and the witty delivery. of his lines makes me want to laugh, 1 can feel a laugh coming, but .then the director reigns him in and you soon realize that maybe he wasn't suppose to be funny, but he just couldn't help himself. It would have been interesting to see this one in the theatre to get everyone else's response. Catherine O'Hare has such a great face she can't help but be funny. She plays an eccentric antique dealer who feels the. need to mother Steve and his new baby. The movie seems quite disjointed, caught somewhere between comedy and drama with a bit of great scenery thrown. in. When you pick a movie, you take your chances, it's just a simple twist of fate.
