Scugog OR = Tuesday, April 11,1995 --23 += Banking milestone for Jayne Parry by Heather McCrae After working at the Royal Bank for 25 years, Jayne Parry was 'royally crowned and roasted" by friends and staff members recently in celebration of her 'silver' milestone. While the Bank presented Jayne with a watch and charm, both studded with a diamond, the staff, after performing several hilarious skits, presented her with a nice gift certificate from Luke's Country Store. Jayne Parry has been with the Royal Bank In Port Perry 25 years. Artist opens show at Library April 15 Scugog Memorial Public Library, 231 Water Street, Port Perry presents the exciting work of fibre artist Rosita Johanson with an opening tea for the public on April 15 between 1 pm and 4 pm. Rosita Johanson has created with fibre since her childhood in West Germany. She now specializes in embroidered miniatures with such success that she has been invited to show and accept awards at home in Toronto and abroad in Paris. Her work is small, brightly coloured and tightly organized. The effect is primitivistic, like folk art, but her themes are contemporary and universal. Moods conveyed range from passionate anger at war and injustice to fantasy and joy, all shown in an area as small as 10 cm. square. Rainbows, boats, people, bikes, buildings and dogs, all are embroidered in striking colour which is clear and bright with shading six layers deep. Applique of fabric are overstitched from her intensely saturated palette of cotton threads and metallics. After weeks of work on one project meticulous finishing details are performed and all is framed on acid-free mat board under ultraviolet blocking glass. Show continues at the Kent Farndale Gallery of the Scugog Memgrial Library until May 5th. Speaking to the Citizen, Joye said she heard about an opening at the bank when she was in grade thirteen at PPHS in 1962. "I had the interview on a Thursday afternoon and was hired the next day as a teller" she said. She says she found the decision to leave school to enter the work force an easy and exciting one. Starting as a teller, and working full time for the first eight years in the Liability, Current Accounts and Accountant Departments, she resigned in 1970 when she and her husband, Bob, were expecting their daughter, Jill. After sons, Cole and Lindsay arrived, she returned to the bank part-time in the fall of 1977 and has remained at the Royal Bank since. Always known for her friendly personality and warm smile, Jayne currently works part-time as a Customer Service Representative for seniors. Jayne has seen a lot of changes since she started with the bank in 1962. Hired in the pre- computer era she was. used to working 'banking hours' which, then were from 10 am - 3 pm, Monday through Friday and postings and interest were done manually. When Jayne was initially hired with the Bank it was situated where the Children's Den is located today and the LCBO occupied the space where the bank currently resides. Jayne told the Citizen, through her customers and fellow staff members, she's made a lot of long lasting friendships. °*3/4X21/4 *3/4X31/4 Colours: Natural Gun Stock 800 284 800 285 SAVE SAVE SAVE 9 °3 hardwood floors Random Lengths (Packaged) 24 sq.ft. per box sq.ft.
