pr. Scugog Citizen -- Toni, April 11, 1995 -- 41 - Pineridge Tweens win league and ss The Port Perry Pineridge Sports Tween B Ringette team finished their 94/95 season by winning the league championship as well as the Regionals. The league championship game was played March 28th in Brooklin against the Whitby team. The Pineridge girls played some very fine ringette during this game and were justly rewarded by bringing home the honour of league champions. Lauren Christie was our very capable goalie and she did a fine job helping us secure a win. Period one saw only one goal scored by the Pineridge girls - a fce shot by Leanne Holt assisted by Leanne Davison and Jen Imrie. Whitby was able to 'chalk up two points this period. Period two our girls knew: that Whitby was out for a win so Port pulled out all the stops and got right to work. Jen Imrie with her usual driving force scored a tying goal early in the second assisted by Leanne Davison and Leanne Holt. Just a minute later Diana Burnett found the Whitby net on an assist by Kim Carrique. Port was able to chalk up two more goals before Whitby slipped their third of the game into our net. Diana Burnett from Leanne Holt and Melissa Hooker from Diana and Leanne H. were the scoring lines for these. At the two minute mark, Mary Justynski flew in to net our last goal of the game assisted by PPMS Skills most of the items on the agenda pertained to housekeeping but a number of others will have an effect on all softballers this season. There will be additional classifications for a Master's division for those over 356 who still want to play the sport but not at the top level calibre, as well as provisions for an, Industrial classification. Previously it had been established that all rep teams affiliated required at least one coach with a full NCCP level one accreditation. This past weekend saw this item revised so that at the mite level there are no such requirements at all while at the squirt age the coach needs the technical level one, All divisions above this require full certification. Registrations - Of 'major concern to the executive at this time is the low number of registrations received to date. There have been a number of write-ups and ads run in this paper regarding this item but the numbers just aren't there yet. Hopefully' now that the weather is starting to look up this will spark some interest in getting everyone out to Pineridge Sports where the staff there will assist in the paper work. For those ball players who have already registered, maybe they can ask classmates and friends if they've done this yet. Melissa and Diana. Great defensive coverage by Jen Imrie, Jen Donnelly, Cathy Cooper and Melissa Hooker, as well as the usual team effort by forwards Diana Burnett, Kim Carrique, Leanne Davison, Jen Hammond, Leanne Holt, Mary Justynski, Lisa LeFort, Amelie Leveille and Amy Wilson all helped to bring us to victory. Final score of this game was 6-3. Congratulations girls. Regional Coverage: The Regionals were held the weekend of April 1st in Whitby, We played four games over the course of three days and came out with three wins and one tie. Lauren Christie played in net for all four games and did a truly outstanding job. Every game saw her goaltending skills excel as she made some truly tremendous saves. Lauren earned herself two shut-outs throughout the weekend, something she can be really proud of. Good work Lauren. Game one was played Friday morning against Pickering. As we had defeated this team one week earlier at the semi-final stage of the league championship, they were anxious to meet us again. It was truly a seesaw game which ended in a 2-2 tie. Scoring for the Pineridge girls were Leanne Holt from Leanne Davison and Melissa Hooker from Jen Imrie. The last two goals of the game were scored within the last minute of play, Pickering first then Port. Truly an exciting game for everyone. Game two was played Friday evening against Ajax. This turned out to be an easy victory for the Pineridge girls. Port carried the play throughout the game, giving our defense some relief. Mary Justynski scored the first goal of the game within the first minute. Amelie Leveille was the next to find the Ajax net assisted by Jen Donnelly. Score at the end of period #1 was 2-0. Period two saw the Pineridge girls picking up six more goals to end the game with an 8-0 win. Scoring this period were Leanne Holt from Kim Carrique; Leanne Davison from Leanne H. and Jen' D.; Melissa Hooker from Kim C.; Jen Imrie unassisted; Melissa Hooker unassisted; and Leanne H. from Cathy Cooper. Once again a ° superb effort from Amy Wilson, The Pineridge Sports Tweens from Port Perry had all kinds of reasons to celebrate this story for a recap of a superb season. Diana Burnett, Lisa LeFort and Jen Hammond. Saturday at noon we journeyed to Brooklin arena to play Whitby. Once again, we had defeated this team for the league title just days earlier, so they too came on to the ice with hopes of victory. Scoring started early in the game with Melissa Hooker's famous shot from the circle which easily found the net. Whitby replied within seconds to tie the game. The "Leanne" duo'were the next to chalk one up for Port as Leanne Holt slid one right in on an easy glide assisted by Leanne Davison. Melissa Hooker picked up her second mark of the game minutes later on assists from Amy Wilson and Jen Dx lly. for both teams to walk away with it all and Port Perry.can be proud that our own Tween B's did just that. Early in the first period the "Jen" duo went into action as vibrant Jen Imrie took a pass from Jen Donnelly and moved "right in to score. The play continued to go back and forth throughout this period before Kim Carrique netted our second goal unassisted in the last two minutes of play. We hoped that the girls were not becoming too confident going into the second period as we all know a lot can happen in i a minutes. Into the second period our opposition took a number of penalties and Port's Jen Our team now came up shorthanded as we suffered penalties, but that did not stop Jen Hammond from Jen Donnelly and Amelie Levielle from Jen Hammond and Jen D. from breaking through .and finding the net. . The final goal of the'game. came from Kim Carrique unassisted, Final score 6-1. This win now gave us a chance at the gold on Sunday. Sunday morning, well rested and ready to play one of their best games of the season, the Pineridge girls met Pickering in the final game of the Regionals.
