- 14 -- Scugog Citizen. -- Tuesday, May 16, 1995 | LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Working people need Bob Rae and NDP To The Editor: The working people of this province need people like Gord Mills and the New Democratic government of Bob Rae Unlike the Liberals and the Tories who stand for big business and their friends on Bay Street, it is the New Democrats that continue to fight for fairness. Let's remember that it was the Bob Rae government that brought the working people of Ontario the Wage Protection Fund, worker ownership, improvements to the Ontario Labour Relations Act, labour- sponsored investment funds and . "real job training for workers. As a working person, I shudder 7 to think about what Ontario would look: like if the Tories or the Liberals (who are looking more and more like the Tories) formed the government. I'd be even more fearful as a public servant. The federal Liberals talked about job creation in 1993. This spring they cut thousands of public service jobs. So much for protecting jobs. Lyn McLeod promises to cut 12,000 public service jobs in Ontario. Mike Harris is outbidding Lyn by promising to cut somewhere in the range of 15,000. In addition to tossing thousands of people on the unemployment lines, these cuts will mean lost taxes and reduced SCUGOG CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BUSINESS © HOURS MINI TRADE SHOW . Unlike the Bob Rae government that has helped welfare recipients get back into the work force, the Liberals and Tories would rather send a million Ontarians back to the unemployment lines. And then there's Bill 40. When it was first introduced, big business said it would scare away investment. Yet the sky has not fallen down. Business investment is, in fact, at an all- time high. For example, investment in new machinery and equipment last year reached its highest level in Ontario history - and it will be even high this year. Yet Miké Harris plans to scrap the entire Bill and Lyn McLeod says she'll scrap part of it. As usual, she hasn't made up throug Unlike the Liberals and Tories, the Bob Rae government recognizes that working people - that women, labour, educational institutions, communities - must be an active partner in helping put Ontario back to work. Now, more than ever, Ontario needs strong New Democrats like Gord Mills and Bob Rae. The federal Liberals have slashed $38.6 billion from Ontario's, health care, education and social assistance funding. Only New Democrats have the courage and leadership to continue to fight for fairness from Ottawa and to stand up on behalf of the working peotle of Ontario. Yours truly, Alex Popadyn, Oshawa.
