The nine year old gelding, and his owner Ian Roberts recently won the prestigious CCI Two Star Checkmate Horse Trials, held over three days near Collingwood. This competition involves several different elements of riding such as dressage, steeplechase and cross country jumping (endurance) and show training for horses in European cavalry regiments. "A horse must be very versatile and adaptable," said Ian in an interview at Dreamcrest Stables south of Port Perry. He and his wife Kelly Plitz own and operate Dreamcrest on the Shirley Road. Ian and Zappa have been competing for the past three seasons, but this year the horse is really starting to come into his own.
