Z Scugog Citizen -- Wednesday, May 24, 1995 -- 8 a Thieves stay busy over holiday weekend It may have been the first long weekend of the summer, but thieves didn't take a holiday. Durham Police say four cases of beer and several bottles of liquor are missing after thieves hit Pizza Delight on Water Street some time during the night of May 20-21. Police said the thieves got in to the restaurant through a rear door and did about $500 damage smashing open a fridge door to get at the beer. Earlier inthe week, a resident of Devitt's Road east of Blackstock reported the theft of a spare tire from a 1995 Chev half ton truck. Apparently the thieves liked the spare so much they returned the following night, jacked the truck up and made off with all four tires including the rims. The loss was pegged at nearly $2,000. Thieves also smashed their way into a car parked in a driveway on Lakeshore Drive and made off with a 35 mm camera and a cell phone which was later recovered. A 1984 Mercury outboard was reported missing from a boat docked at a residence on Carnegie Beach Road on Scugog Island. And a CB radio was lifted from a boat docked at a residence on Portview Beach Road on Scugog Island the night of May 18-19. The 16-foot aluminum boat was found nearby with the steering cables cut. The motor had been tampered with as well.
