The event, sponsored by the Durham Region Health Department, is the first of its kind to be held in North Durham. "The average pregnancy is nine months long, but the three month: period before a couple conceives is just as important. This is the time when couples can look into their family history and make changes in lifestyle habits that can affect the development of future babies," said Shari Phillis, public health nurse. Guest speakers for the evening will be Dr. Steven Russell, a local family physician, Laurie Bray, a public health nurse and Milly Ryan- Harshman, a public health nutritionist. Topics to be discussed include health issues, decisions to make about becoming parents and the importance of healthy eating before pregnancy.
