MNR officers busy checking Scugog anglers Conservation officers with the Ministry of Natural Resources were busy Saturday checking anglers for violations on Lake Scugog. Officer Mitch Phinney told the Citizen there were 175 anglers checked, with nine charges laid for fishing without a licence and fishing with more than one line. Both carry a minimum fine of $50, he said. Officers also issued seven warnings during their time on the lake. They had planned to continue inspections on Sunday, but were forced off the lake due to the bad weather. Phinney said the checks Saturday on Lake Scugog revealed that anglers were having good success with the popular pickerel. Several had their limit of six (with a regular Ontario fishing licence) while others with the Conservation licence had their limit of two pickerel. Over the last few weeks, the Citizen has received enquiries from readers about whether fishing is legal on the Highway 7A causeway when there are "fish sanctuary" signs posted. Mr. Phinney told the Citizen that fishing is legal along the causeway, but anglers must not take any species if the season is not open (bass and muskie) He said officers have been checking anglers fishing along the causeway east of Port Perry and more than a dozen charges have been laid--most for fishing without a licence. Last Saturday was the first enforcement on Scugog this spring. But anglers can expect to be checked by conservation officers on a regular basis. "We will back on Lake Scugog this (coming) weekend," he said. app] 1st Wedding Anniversay Bub & Drie ili On June 4th, 1995 Love - Family and Friends --- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, May 30, 1995 -- 3 PZ LN After 'caring and sharing' as Scugog Trustee on the Durham Board of Education for nine years, Joyce Kelly of Blackstock was honoured with a night of music featuring the Cartwright Central Public Shcool band and cholr as well as the Cartwright HS Junior and Senlor bands.
