br Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, June 6, 1995 -- 13 a "Today's promises are tomorrow's taxes!' To The Editor: They say you can't judge a book by its cover. No more than you dan judge a politician by their promises. Remember today's promises are tomorrow's taxes. Currently the Rae Gov't is borrowing close to $1 billion a month . The upcoming provincial election is a very important one; one that will decide the future not for just 5 years but for decades to come. Like a race horse let's look at the record. David, Peterson's Liberals gave us 32 tax increases followed by Bob Rae's 33. tax increases making a total of 65 in the past 10 years. The Rae NDP government has doubled the debt, had the provinces credit rating downgraded several times and its own auditor won't rubber stamp its financial statement. There is according to the auditor a deficit of about $10 billion while "pink floyd" the treasurer says its only $8 billion. Where is the missing $2 billion? We are $150 billion in debt, the highest in history. Bob Rae wants to make Ontario officially bilingual. I quote from Hansard official transcripts. "I am convinced the step of making Ontario a province where French is Constitutionally Entrenched and Citizen Want Ads THEY WORK! 54 Water St., Port Perry 985-6397 QO% where French is recognized as an official language in our province". When Bill 8 was passed by the Peterson government he gave the French speaking (they claimed) a million dollars to throw a big party to celebrate. When questioned about the give- away he replied "it's only peanuts". The cost to date estimated at about $1 billion. When Bill 8 was passed some 70 MPP's failed to show up for the vote. Rae has continued the policy as a favor to Peterson, who he kept in office until his turn came up. Rae spent $4 billion on French signs for 401 highways. Liberal party organizer Senator "The rainmaker" Keith Davey said the only difference between the Liberals and the NDP was that the NDP is in a hurry. They are both socialists. No more social engineering. The Workers Compensation Board has $12 billion outstanding debt. Hire on merit Rae has designated more than 5,000 jobs in Ontario by Anglos - 3/4 of 1 percent. In Ontario, no white Anglo males need apply. The employment equity'laws favour quotas of visible minorities, natives, francophones and women. Despite layoffs the NDP says it will protect equity quotas. The government will decide who works and who doesn't. Laws that may soon apply to workers in the private sector. The cost in excess of $10 million a year. Rae has spent more than $12 million on polls. Plans to spend hundreds of millions on new health cards, by claiming health card fraud is about 6 times higher than the auditor says it is. The NDP government has sat in the legislature only 20 days in the last 10 months. The Rae NDP government has continually appealed to minority pressure groups often ignoring I. Speaking in Ottawa during the Campaign he said quote "Drug Addicts and homosexuals will be the big winners if the NDP gets elected" Rae promised he will re- introduce Bill 167 same sex benefits bill and expand health centres that dole out needles and condoms for heroin users. He concluded "I will see more services provided not less." On the other hand, Mike Harris says he will cut wasteful spending by $6 billion-lower income tax by 10% for each of 3 years (30%), create jobs, cut civil service, and reduce MPP's from 130 to 99. Able bodied welfare recipients will be required to ' governments... work or be re-trained for their benefits. Welfare benefits in Ontario are 35% higher than the rest of Canada. We are being milked dry. The Harris "common sense revolution" makes sense to me. If you want more wild spending like we have seen in the past 10 years of Liberal and NDP some 65 tax increases then vote Liberal or NDP. Taxes that will be paid by our children and their children for decades to come. The choice is simple. Caveat emptor (let "voter" beware). Dean J. Kelly, Port Perry.
