Si g Citizen -- Tuesday, June 6, 1995 --29 Cartwright Minor Ball - Week two The rain postponed all games in the Tyke and Squirt divisions. These games will be re-scheduled by the respective teams. T-Ball ANALDA - 14 BLACKSTOCK LIONS - 14 In a typical high-scoring game home runs by Caitlyn Hellingman for Analda and Myles Romain for the Lions were the offensive highlights. Darren Arsneault had 2 outs for Analda at the pitching position while Cindy Radford provided some clutch hitting. Scott Banks had a triple and Jeremy Dunham played a great defensive game to be the other game stars for the Lions. FIGURE SKATING CLUB - 20 SUPER SPUD - 15 The Skating Club'ran their record to 2-0 with Nathan Alpe hitting a home run. Leading the . Spudsters were Johnathon VanOostenveen and Cody James completing a double play. MITES CUMMINGS BACKHOE - 12 The winners In the 14 and under class In Canoe the Nonquon were at back centre Mark Delaney and Nick Ostafichuk (first). Gamblers nip Aurora 4-1 The Greenbank Gamblers met Aurora at lanson Park in Greenbank last Thursday night and the Aurora club threw a scare at the Gambler squad. Behind the excellent pitching of Dave Eschli, Aurora took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning and looked capable of upsetting the Gamblers who had been unable to advance a runner past second base and had collected only two meager hits during five innings. Aurora only had a total of four hits off the Greenbank pitching Under 9 Soccer report Nuts About Chocolate Vs. Scugog Rental Kyle Paige debuted his sdason with great footwork scoring one goal, David Stewart and Grant 'Ranieri also scored one goal each for Nuts About Chocolate. But this wasn't enough to hold back Michael Armstrong who scored a hat trick for Scugog Rental to make the Jordanne Bursey netted another one for Scugog Rental to make the score 4-3. . Strong offensive play was shown by Britini Smith and Kirk Stevens while Ian Wick and Adam Johanson held tough on defence. Congratulations, it was a great game for both teams. Raglan Welding Vs. Burketon Burketon opened its season with a tremendous 9-0 victory over Raglan Welding. Outstanding efforts by Matt Morison with 2 goals, Adam Philippe with 3 goals, Danny Morrison with 2 goals, and Alex Henderson with 2 goals. Raglan Welding worked hard and put forth a great effort to make it an exciting game to watch. duo of Mark Goreski and Byron Baranieski but they had collected 2 of their hits in the third inning and scored a run on an infield putout. But in the bottom of the sixth inning the Greenbank bats came to life with Chris Burkholder leading the inning off with a single to right field and came' around to score the tying run on Greg Newells hit. Don Beaton drew a walk and Paul Goreski promptly whacked a triple of the centre field fence to score a pair of Gambler runs Roger's Automotive Vs. Dairy Delight Roger's opened the season with a 5-1 win over Dairy Delight's "Devil's". Excellent determination was shown by Alexandra Moffatt of Roger's who scored one goal. Other goals for Roger's were scored by Trevor Longhurst with two and Matthew Tennant also with two. Katelyn May had a fantastic game for Dairy Delight scoring one goal. Alex Herold and Brittiny Zochodne showed good hustle for Dairy Delight. Good Work. VanCamp & Kellar Vs. Port Perry Craft & Gift Show Both teams had a great game but it was Port Perry Craft & Gift Show who came away with an 8-3 win. Goals were scored by Matt Charron with 3, Chris Charron with 1, and Keenan Geer with 4. VanCamp & Kellar had a fantastic effort given by Lindsay Volpe who scored one goal, Stewart Medford with one goal, and Kaitlan Almack with one goal. Both teams put on a great show for all the spectators. and their fourth counter came across the plate on Mark Goreski's double. In the top of the seventh mark Goreski set Aurora down in order and Greenbank had a 4-1 win and a 5-0 record in league play this year. Peter Oosterholt saw his first action of the season and the lick fielding shortstop chipped in with a base hit in his 3 at bats. This week the Gamblers travel to Markham on Monday and host the Oshawa Juniors at 8pm on Thursday at Greenbank. Village Decor Vs. Manvers Unfortunately, Village Decor started the season with a defaulted game. You'll have to save that energy for next week's game. Antrim House Vs. Raglan Welding Raglan Welding played their second game of the week and come away victorious. They won 2-0 over Antrim House with Willi Deanike and Marie Gedge doing the scoring. Good effort was put forth by all athletes on the field. Way to go. Port Perry Metals Vs. Bank of Montreal Bank of Montreal opened the season with a 5-2 win over Port Perry Metals Great first game, good sportsmanship and team. effort. Goals for Bank of Montreal were scored by Steven Etherington (1), Elizabeth Reinhart (1), and Jonathon Hamelinck (3). Andrew Pegg and Gillian scored one each for Port Perry Metals. Great defence by Kaine Laursen, Kimberly Wilson and Danielle Bourgeois. Goad goaltending by Jeremy Cash. Happy Birthday to Erica Bulloch. LISHMAN'S - 9 In a game of many lead changes the Cummings crew prevailed in . the end with the win. Offensively for Cummings Rachell VanOostveen had 2' RBI's as well as scoring 2 runs. Brandon Hoskin contributed 8 of Cummings runs while Taylor Churchill pitched a scoreless 2nd inning, striking out 3 Lishman's batter. | Nicole Jones led Lishman's with a home run to lead the offense while Jeff Kraan made 3 outs at first and Donnie Ellis pitched a strong game to lead the defense. HOMETOWN IGA - 16 H&M WRIGHT SOX - § In a rare full 7 inning mite matchup the IGA team increased their record to 2-0..The game was close at 6-5 after 4 innings but IGA scored the maximum 6 runs in the 8th to pull away the win. = IGA pitchers Katie Vanstrien and Abby McLaughlin continued their fine play at pitching holding H&M scoreless over the last 3 innings. Janice Kadowaki played the best game of the young campaign collecting 2 hits and scoring twice. Matt Cerovich and Sean McKenna proved practice pays as they contributed with key singles. Holly Bartley scored 3 runs with the others coming from 9 other players. Sean Winter had 2 of H&M's 5 runs while Kevin Arsneault had 2 hits and Tyson Prescott provided some fine pitching and some fancy base running. TURNER'S - 32 NESTLETON - 10 Jeremy Morrison was thesstar player for Turner's. He caught a pop fly on 2nd base, and while the other team was trying to tag up, Jeremy touched the base again for a double out. This didn't happen just once, but twice during the game. During one inning, Jeremy covered 1st base and proceeded to catch another pop fly. Because he is 80 quick, he managed to get an out on the tag up. It didn't stop there though, quick thinking made him throw the ball to Mitch Truax on 3rd and another out for Turner's. Two double plays and a triple. What a night. Other Turner hi-lights included Warren Keeler and Mitch Truax with 2 home runs each. All Katie Ferguson's hard work at batting practice paid off. Her first hit of the season landed her a double. Heather Lee Jones showed her stuff with some great back- tching moves. She ged to catch 2 fouls for 2 outs. ' SENIOR MARLIN TRAVEL - 10 DR. WORKMAN HAWKEYES - 5 The Travellers evened their regord at 1-1 by doubling the Hawkeyes '10-5. Chris Bronson and Jason Price pitched effectively for the winners while Kim Philp had 3 walks. Jamie Budge stole home to put his team in the lead. Offensively the Hawkeyes had RBI's from Holly: Westall with 2, Josh Martyn and Jeff Danilko. Defensively Rob Watson, Ryan Prescott and Holly Westall pitched well. CAMPBELL ELECTRIC - 21 DON FREW - 4 v Good defence and a team total of 23 hits overpowered Campbell's to their 2nd victory. Defensively Chad Hobbs and Amanda Drew had strong games at 2nd base. Deryk Campbell continued to lead the offense with: 4 hits including a home run while Ryan Whittick collected a triple and 2 doubles. Also collecting 2 hits were Elisha James, Trish Haertel, + Aaron Gimblett, Amanda Drew, David Bauer, Sean Warren and Darryl Dean. Troy Mappin led the Frew crew with a double while April Vanstrien had 2 singles and Laura Tyrell and call up Andrew Hudson had a single each. Defénsive highlights.were Darryl Keeler's play at short, Troy Mappin's catch id the outfield and Stephanie Shortridge's throw out at home. A special thanks to call op Andrew Hudson for filling in for the Don Frew team. BASEBALL ASSELSTINE'S - 24 ORONO TOWN HALL - 8 An"explosive start carried the Yamaha's to victory. Leading the way was Brian Chartrand's 3 for 3 while great defense by Craig Joudrey, Ryan Elliott and Alex Dejong helped preseive the victory. Orono pitcher Jamie Rowe pitched well in relief but to no avail as Cartwright's team had built up an 18 run lead. Offensively Kasey Timms and John Conrad led Orono with steals at home. ASSELSTINE'S - 16 COQURTICE - 16 A last inning rally gave Asselstine's their 4th straight victory. Strong relief pitching by Tim Jensen over the last 3 innings and Alex DedJong's excellent play at catcher provided the defensive ark. Blake Tanner's bases loaded triple was the key hit in the come from behind victory. The next home game is June 15th at the high school field at 6pm. COACH REMINDERS: Signed call up forms are needed before call ups can play. Please make up rain out games ASAP you'll be glad you did. Citizen Fish Derby results The weekly winner in the Scugog Citizen Big Fish Derby for pickerel is Hector Peach of Scugog Island: Hector's winning pickerel tipped the'scales at 4 pounds and he wins a gift voucher with a $50 value. Ray Desautels of Seagrave remains the overall winner in the pickerel category with a fish entered three weeks ago that weighed over seven pounds. * With the season for muskie now open on Lake Scugog, there have been more than 40 entries in this category. Deadline for entering a muskie in the first week is this coming Sunday at 6:00 PM at JD Fishing and Archery on Water Street, Port Perry. Watch the Citizen next week to find out who wins Week One in the muskie category. Bass anglers take note. The deadline to register in the Big fish Derby is Friday, June 23 as the season for both small and largemouth opens on June 24. So don't miss out. It costs $10 to register per category and there are merchandise prizes to be won each week as well as cash for the biggest fish entered in the Derby which ends early in September.
