> 18 -- Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, June 13, 1995 pa Guides by Judie Cooper Port Perry District Girl Guides has seen another great year of Guiding draw to a close. Our Spring cookie campaign was a huge success enabling many of the units to partake in many exciting adventures. Thanks again Port Perry for your support. The Sparks and Brownie units took in such events as bowling, visits to the Toronto Zoo, Sundance Meadows just north of Seagrave, Northwoods Exotic Animal Farm in Seagrave and Nature Walks through our local parks. The 5th B ies went to Wildwood M, anch near Georgetown, Camp, this past weekend ear you had a enjoy end-of-year barbeque "Wild" time and that the mosquitoes were as big as the horses. Ouch!!! The first Guides were off to camp as well last weekend - to Emily Prov. Park. A fun and learning experience was had by all. The 2nd Guides enjoyed a weekend at Greenwood Conservation Area in May sleeping under canvas, taking an all day hike, learning to cook over fires, on coleman stoves, using buddy burners and reflector ovens. Pizza sure tastes good when cooked by the Guides. The leaders of the group decided to master a reflector oven this camp and finally met with success. Look out girls, there's another way to cook food. They also spent a day at the Kortwnght Centre doing their Water Badge and a Pond Study. The 4th Guides braved the cold at the arena during the Artfest and I know they were much appreciated for selling coffee and treats. Good job girls! The 2nd Pathfinders have been a very busy group the last few months. They completed two service projects serving food at the Scout Banquet at the Lions Hall and serving at the United Church Elders dinner. Thanks so much girls. It's so nice to have a helping hand. They had a great time at Wheelies and their year end celebration found them out for lunch and to a movie. They will have one last weekend at Carriage rides In this 1895 Open Trap Carriage, drawn All] by Babs, will he be part of the many activities planned for the Epsom-Utica Jamboree on June 23, 24 and 25. "Get to know your Heber Downs planned this month for those girls needing to complete their Bronze, Silver and Gold camps. Good luck girls. Watch out for those deerflies! On Fri. June 2nd Port Perry District had their year end Parent/Daughter B.B.Q. at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church. Although the weather was hot and muggy we lucked out and were able to complete all the fun without a drop of rain falling. The merriment began at 6:00 with hog dogs and hamburgers on the grill. Although the propane ran out the spirit of the girls did not and once everyone was full the fun and games proceeded with sack races, dressup relays, potato on the spoon relays and of course the every popular fill the jugs lg with water and wet sponge toss. The evening was topped off with a campfire joining the youthful voices of the girls with those of the melodic tones of the crickets and bullfrogs. a A wonderful evening was had by all. Thank you to the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church for letting us use the facilities, to M & M Meats and 1.G.A. for their help in supplying food and to Rent and Save for their quick assistance in obtaining more propane. Thanks to all the leaders who worked so hard to put together the evening and thanks to the girls and parents who made the evening such a success. Have a super summer girls and don't forget to register in September for more great fun. Enjoying a recent end of season barbeque are Pathfinder Holly Taylor, Guide Sarah Davis, Brownie Fiona Barrass, and Spark Katle Zaparanulk. In backeround slaving over the hot BBQ are Jon Dawson and Steve Gould neighbour" Is the theme of the Jamboree and some of the events will be a dinner and dance Friday night, Yard Sale on Saturday and church service on Sunday.
