1 my" Scugog Citizen -- Tuesday, June 20, 1995 -- 13 - Casino questions just go on and on To The Editor: On Wednesday, June 14th 1995, there was a meeting on the Mississauga Reserve, Scugog Island with senior officials of the Durham Regional Police led by Chief Trevor McCagherty. It was" called by Mississauga Chief Gary Edgar. On Channel « 12 in Peterborough TV at 6pm and 11pm the two chiefs were interviewed. I responded on behalf of the Save Scugog Island Committee. Chief Edgar said the meeting was to inform Durham Regional Police of their new plans for a casino, and their new financial partners. Singer says thanks To The Editor: 1 would be very grateful if you could please extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation on behalf of myself,-my wife and the Varey family of Cookstown, to the residents of Port Perry and surrounding areas for their support at the Sing-A-Thon in Palmer Park. Although the weather was not very favourable over most of the June 1st weekend a total of $1,541.90 was donated to help four year old Laura and her family. ' Also, our thanks goes to Canadian Tire, Gators slo-pitch baseball tournament, Mackie Automotive Systems, Cartwright Central 'Piablic School and Cartwright High School for their donations as well as Pizza Delight, Country Style Donuts and Picture Perfect TV. Last but not least, my personal thanks to Tom Mark, Port Perry for the use of his PA system and to the musicians and entertainers who so willingly donated their time and talents - Claude Petrie, Greenbank; Gary Hooper, Uxbridge; Dave' Barber, Lindsay; Al Schnurr, Caesarea; Darlene Madill, Newmarket; Samantha Chase, Claremont; 'Claudette Petrie, Willowdale; Buck & Evelyn Yade, Pickering; The Golden Slippers, Scugog Island; Good News Gospel, Whitby, Out-Back Cloggers, Port Perry, and many others. My thanks also to Rick Johns, Port Perry and Gary Powell, Scarborough, who worked the midnight shift and "Helped Me Make It Through The Night", and to Audrey Hall who volunteered her time. Sincerely, Lorne & Joan Hachey Blackstée Chief McCagherty explained that they had no problem with a casino, but were concerned with the other side-effects that may be felt by the force and the community at large. The inference at least to me, is that they are worried about associated criminal activities. I raised our concerns re traffic, roads, water table, sewage disposal, garbage disposal and safety generally. I also made it clear that road improvements would likely fall on our tax shoulders, as they pay no Municipal or Provincial taxes. Last October, early in the month, Chief Edgar and his consultants promised full .disclosure of all of their plans to our Municipal council. There has been, to this date, no consultations or disclosures whatsoever. iw ' We ask the following questions: 1. What happened to their original financial backers? 2.
