In the first four months of this year (Jan. to April) Durham Police handled 1593 crimes against persons, a drop of 0.4 per cent over the same four months in 19944 These include such crimes as assault, murder, attempt murder, manslaughter, sexual assault and offensive weapons. From Jan. 1 to the end of April, © there were 8,635 crimes against property, compared with 8,146 in the same period last year. Durham Police Chief Trevor McCagherty noted that calls for service to the police department are "inching up" as well. In 26 Division, which covers Scugog, Brock and Uxbridge Townships, the report shows that crimes against property declined this year to 730 from 803 in the same period in 1994. Crimes against persons in 26 Division remain virtually un- changed in 1995 with 98 reported so far this year, compared with 97 from Jan. to the end of April 1994. The Police Services Board met at the Scugog Library last ° Friday morning. The Board is holding its monthly meetings in the municipalities that make up the Region. Commenting on the crime statistics, board member Allan McPhail said he is "amazed" that they appear to "be so good." For the first time ever the Durham Police Services Board met in Scugog Township last Friday morning. The meeting was held at the Memorial Library.
